Super Awesome - Helped Realise My Dream
I have been planning to create a subscription site for quite some time now, but couldn't do it for various reasons, including the hassles of using Wordpress along with innumerable plugins! When I saw this Subhub deal, I wanted to jump in, but decided to take my time. I created a trial account, explored around, sought their support, etc. I also observed how the questions and issues of other Sumolings were being addressed.
I finally decided to buy a code last week after getting some of my acquaintances to pay for my future subscription site! Within 2 days, I could set up all the basics and on the 3rd day I connected my domain. During all of this, I raised numerous support tickets and all of them were quickly (within 8 working hours) addressed. Although some things were not possible the way I wanted, Jeanne and Bev helped me in the best possible ways and offered alternative solutions wherever possible. Since I don't want very complex set up, I am more than happy with what Subhub offers.
I must admit that with the kind of idea I am working on, and with very less probability of people opting to subscribe to my site (that's how it is in my country!), I would have never been able to pay for the regular plans of any subscription software! So thanks to Appsumo and Subhub for this deal that helped me realise my dream of owning a subscription site with a one-time, small investment.
This is a GREAT deal when you consider all the features and hosting cost. For anybody who doesn't need super fancy things, thousands of integrations, etc, this is super awesome. It has everything that you need, but might be missing things that you 'want' or fancy to have. As Evan and the team have been stressing in comments, it's a perfect solution for someone who is starting and doesn't want to break their head with hundred different things to care of while managing a subscription site. It's simple and easy.
If you can afford to stick to their templates and set up, this will work like a charm. Trying to customise etc might be a hassle though.
There are certain little but big things that will bother you. For example, you can't change the URLs fully, or have them the way you want. The 'About Us' page has the slug /articles/about-us - not sure why we are being forced to have 'articles' in the URL. The T&C page reads 'Terms and Condition', not 'conditions' and can't figure out if I can change it! The 'view' permission settings seem to have a bug. Few things are hard to figure out, but if you ask the support they will help you out really well, so that's a relief.
Overall, I am happy. I hope I can make some money off my site :)
