The worst getting started experience I've had on Appsumo.

TaskMagic has been, by far, the worst "getting started" experience I've encountered on AppSumo.

Background:
As a director, CTO, and software developer with 25 years of experience—including work with global unicorns—I'm no stranger to new tools or complex systems.

My Experience (30 Minutes In):
Desktop App Installed and Logged In:
The home menu item was completely blank, leaving me with no clear direction.

Getting Started Video:
It was tedious, overly simplistic, and condescending, clearly aimed at total beginners, which felt out of place given the product's premise.

Support Information:
None available upfront. After navigating through multiple steps, I found a support menu buried in a second window (launched from the builder). However, support requires joining the "TaskMagic Lazy Empire Group." After attempting to join, I received no email confirmation, so I couldn't even contact support.

First Task Attempt ("Screen Capture"):
The app was unhelpful and frustrating:

The builder opens directly into "flows" with a prominent top-bar link encouraging upgrades. This feels like a hard sell, especially for first-time users.
New flow templates had nothing related to "screenshot" or "capture"—a fundamental task I expected to be readily available.
Any attempt to create or explore features was blocked by paywalls demanding upgrades.
Final Thoughts:
TaskMagic’s onboarding feels like a masterclass in what not to do. For a product to address user concerns head-on in its "getting started" video demonstrates a lack of confidence in its usability. The experience was so disjointed and frustrating that it became my worst UX experience to date, even compared to other disappointing AppSumo purchases.

TaskMagic doesn't just need an onboarding overhaul; it needs to rethink its entire approach to the user experience.

Bradley - you can’t be cheap and expect not to see paywalls lol. You’ve only got tier 1 access; so yes you’d see paywalls and won’t be able to use all features, which in turn makes it frustrating I’m sure. It’s going to feel lacking in experience if you’re missing things. As for support; I’m sure you didn’t even try. We have our support email listed, a contact us on our help desk, a community you can come in so I’m lost there, too. At the end of the day, you cant be upset when you buy the lowest version of something and then see paywalls for features. Thanks for giving us a try though
