Q: Hey, long time Protonmail user, since they were a beta :) Regarding your offer, I understand still very ...
early stage, so I understand you still have a lot to do, but I do have some questions.
1) Where is the 1TB stored? Is this like Google Drive? Or, it's storage for the files attached to an email?
2) If is for the files attached to an email, let's say I get tier one. Once the storage is exhausted, will the email stop working? What are the options?
3) If you go out of business, or sell your company, will you put in place measures to make early adopters get taken care and receive all the updates?
4) Can we export our data?
Thank you!

May 14, 2024A: Thank you for reaching out. In regards to your request, here are the answers below
1. It is quite different than something like GDrive. All your files are encrypted and stored on a decentralized cloud in tiny chunks spread over hundreds or thousands of nodes. When you request the file, it's reassembled from all nodes and returned. The 1TB cloud storage includes all encrypted Emails, Files, and app data. All storage is e2e encrypted.
2. The email will keep working, but the data won't be backed up, we're considering doing something that would back up the most recent data leaving the older data not backed up, but that's not implemented currently. So if you go over it, it just doesn't back up your file, but you can still send it.
3. We would do our very best, yes, but we can't make promises
4. Technically speaking, yes, since all your data is on your device, it is encrypted at rest and not user-friendly to export. It's another feature we plan on building out in the feature as we care a great deal about users owning their data and being free to do whatever they please with it. Thank you
