Q: Welcome to Appsumo :) I use Imgix (that you refer to in the comparison list) on some sites and specifically ...
the ability to crop to a specific focus point. The focal point longitude and latitude is sent as a parameter in the URL and the source files are on S3.
How does TwicPics compare to this functionally and from an operational perspective?
Thanks

May 15, 2024A: Hi!
Sorry if I'm repeating the answer. Maybe you'll find this explanation more clear.
Yes, of course it is possible to set a focus point and then crop according to it with TwicPics.
To do so, use the chaining transformations of the TwicPics API:
1) specify a focus point. This could be X, Y coordinates or an anchor like <top-left>
2) specify crop size, like crop=200x100
Here is the documentation:

Can you also let me know, we need to use our own domain name for the images, do you not provide a CNAME solution for the URLs. I can only see TwitPics (sub)domain in the screenshot for the WP plugin as a domain name option.
This would also mess up all the SEO rankings for our domain(s) if we have to switch to a TwitPics subdomain. Ie we'd lose ranking and it would be passed on to TwitPics.

Hi!
I confirm that TwicPics allows you to set a custom CNAME.
This feature is included in all our AppSumo plans.
To do this: connect to the back-office and specify the CNAME of your choice via Intercom.

Hi! Thank you for your interest.
Yes, it's possible to crop to a specific focus point with TwicPics!
Let's say this is your original image: https://demo.twic.pics/leila_bekhti.jpg
You can:
- set the coordinates for cropping: https://demo.twic.pics/leila_bekhti.jpg?twic=v1/focus=2325x468/cover=9:16/resize=700
- or, set an anchor for cropping: https://demo.twic.pics/leila_bekhti.jpg?twic=v1/focus=top-right/cover=9:16/resize=700
- or, use our AI to crop with focus on the most important element: https://demo.twic.pics/leila_bekhti.jpg?twic=v1/focus=auto/cover=9:16/resize=500

Hi Daniel,
Great news about the CNAME (btw is that one CNAME per workspace?).
For images that have multiple objects / products etc, we've found that the cropping to a focus point is the only way to truly be able to crop an image correctly.
Granted with several photos, the autocrop solution works well, but there are often outliers when we use images with several products, as it is impossible to tell which product to crop to, without input from an editor. Even a human wouldn't know.
Is there no plan to provide an x & y focus point for cropping function?
Thanks,
