Q: Multi Line Detailed Invoices (with each line item listed) for consulting services? Auto Tax & extra costs?
Hello,
Im not sure if this is currently capable of meeting my needs, which are selling consulting hours (agreed, irregular times) - we need a detailed invoice that reflects each item.
The typical flow is:
- Pre sale meeting
- After (or during the meeting), We make a proposal to the lead ( if they accept the proposal, then we need to raise an invoice for them to pay that includes all the details of what has been agreed):
Eg "Consultant X for 5 sessions of 2 hours each @ £100 per hour.
Item 1: 7th Jan 2026 @ 8pm GMT
Item 2: 14th Jan 2026 @ 8pm GMT
Item 3: 21st Jan 2026 @ 8pm GMT
Item 4: 28th Jan 2026 @ 8pm GMT
Item 5: 4th Feb 2026 @ 8pm GMT
Please could you explain if this can be done in Unibee and how the invoice would look?
Finally in the dash it says we have to connect to Tax Jar, is that an extra cost? Does it work off IP?
Thanks
Yuumi
Dec 17, 2025A: Hello there,
Thank you for sharing your detailed workflow. I have great news: Unibee is fully capable of handling your specific consulting scenario.
1. Multi-Line Detailed Invoices (Exactly as you need) You can absolutely create "Ad-hoc" invoices for your consulting clients without needing to create complex subscription plans.
Custom Descriptions: When creating an invoice, you can manually type directly into the "Item description" field. This means you can type "Session 1: 7th Jan 2026 @ 8pm GMT" exactly as you wish.
Multiple Lines: You can simply click the (+) button to add as many rows as you need (e.g., 5 separate lines for your 5 sessions), each with its own description and price.
The Result: The client will receive a professional invoice reflecting this exact breakdown.
2. Auto Tax vs. Manual Tax (Cost Savings)
Manual Tax (Free): As seen in our invoice creator, there is a "Tax Rate" field. If you know your tax rate (e.g., flat 20% VAT), you can simply enter it there manually. This incurs no extra cost and does not require TaxJar.
Auto Tax (TaxJar/VATSENSE): If you need automated calculation because you have clients all over the world with different rules, then you would connect TaxJar or Vatsense. The "Extra Cost" would be the subscription you pay to TaxJar directly. And yes, accurate tax calculation generally relies on the Billing Address, not just IP, to be compliant.
I hope this confirms that Unibee can fit your workflow perfectly! Let me know if you have any other questions.

Thanks Yuumi, that sounds promising - I'm onboard now and will investigate this, my initial impressions are that the app is a long way from intuitive and hence me raising this question, however I only looked at the backend quickly so I clearly need to spend more time testing this for usability.

...Continued:
If there are any detailed guides on how to do this I would much appreciate it - one particular issue is an invoice might need 10-30 such lines, I can create a spreadsheet formula to make creating them faster but writing or copy/pasting them one at a time into an invoice app would be too slow, so I would like a solution for that too.
