Poor video and photo resolution
My impression of VideoPeel so far...
It could be a great product, IN THE FUTURE!
BUT, it's not ready yet in terms of technology.
Especially video and photo resolution and quality.
I recorded several test videos on two smartphones that are capable of filming 4K 30fps and 60fps.
But what did VideoPeel record?
A horrible, blurry video with a resolution only 480 x 360 pixels! The least I would expect would be the full HD resolution of 1920 x 1080.
I also requested a selfie photo in my submission form.
VideoPeel created a thumbnail of 338 x 450 pixels. Also, the JPEG compression is way too strong and created a ton of JPEG artifacts on top of the low resolution.
To be honest, both of these resolutions are a bit of a joke to me...
Especially because every modern smartphone is capable of so much higher resolution and quality.
Now, I don't know if this low quality is caused by VideoPeel's app, or if there are some technical limitations behind some of the underlying technologies that they use such as "HTML Media Capture".
I have seen other recording platforms using "WebRTC" to record videos of up to 4K on smartphones.
It would be great to understand what VideoPeel's plans are in terms of technology to fix this? Or if these low resolutions are intended to stay permanently low. I reached out to their team about the video quality several times but didn't receive a reply.
At this time, I cannot recommend this app, especially to anyone who cares about video quality!
If I want to create a video reel with customer testimonials and upload this in 4K to my Youtube channel, there is no way that video clips of 480 x 360 pixels would look nice in any way, when upscaled.
The only solution I can see is, that VideoPeel figures out the tech, or that I have to ask customers to manually record videos with their native phone camera app and to send it to you via other means. In the second case, VideoPeel would have no further purpose, other than collecting video release forms, that I could do with another app too.
Happy to adjust my rating, if the video and photo resolution is just a temporary issue and there is a clear path for the foreseeable future in terms of higher resolution and better quality for videos and photos.
