Q: Hello, I bought vidstep for my courses and coaching, but the vast majority of my clients use phones.

However, the videos are not optimized. I saw that you are evading this issue, telling others that vidstep works fine in phones and just have troubles with some devices. I can tell you that the issue exist in a lot of different devices.
The bar and full-screen icon are not showing, and the video crops at the bottom.
Please address this issue.
(And not, is not an isolated case, I can see other people telling you this)
Also, there is a problem in full-screen mode, the bar, and logo are not hiding.
Please address this issues, I think is a great idea but still has some problems.
Thanks in advance.

A: Hi Xavier

Thanks for using Vidstep and courses and coaching are a great use case. Great work.

Vidstep is certainly optimised for mobile and responsiveness, to present well for the viewer experience. We go to great lengths to ensure this and with a great deal of development and testing.

Of course, we are not perfect and people do find bugs from time to time or suggestions for improvements, and we are quick to respond and rectify. There is nothing here we are evading I can assure you we invite feedback and work to resolve genuine issues... we just have to be sure they are actual issues.

Let me help you here:

1) You are saying the play bar and full-screen icon are not showing. These only show when you first activate the Vidstep, then they disappear as not to interfere with the video content itself. To see the bar and icon again, all you need to do is touch the video.

2) When you say the video crops at the bottom, it cannot crop when playing in portrait mode, so I assume this in when you rotate the mobile device to landscape. When rotating to landscape, the video will automatically adjust to the horizontal 'width' of the screen and on some devices, this means the lower part of the video will not be visible unless you scroll (as we cannot squash the video out of ratio). This is because the viewer is not only wanting to display the video, but also the header and steps etc below still need to present. However, if you click the full screen icon while in Landscape, the video adjusts to the full screen size and eliminates the header and steps so just the video shows. We need to leave this choice/functionality in, but will consider any improvements we can make of course.

3) When in full screen mode, the play bar and full screen icon does in fact show, then hides itself after 1 to 2 seconds. You make it reappear by touching the video area again (after which it disappears again after a second of so if no further action).

I hope we have explained that there are no issues here, all is functioning as designed and yes, we will consider what improvements can be made in point two, without compromising the other essential functions.

Thanks for taking the time with this Xavier.

Hello,

1 and 2) No, they are not showing. I know I can touch the screen to make them appear, as well as my clients, this is basic. As far as I can tell, the play bar and full-screen icon don't appear. Since you can't see them, you can't really touch them. To go full screen, you will have to guess where it is in the low right corner and then touch it.
See the video below. In landscape mode, you can see the image is cropped. There is no bar visible. When I press the screen, the video stops and only the play button appears.

3) For the third point. Two weeks ago, I sent you a video showing the problem. Here it is again.

You said then you would fix the issue, and now you are giving me some basic and condescending response. Of course I am familiar with how a video works. I know that we press a button, the bar appears, and then disappears after 2-3 seconds. I am not naive. The problem lies with VidStep. If we let the cursor alone, the bar stays visible.
Please give me a better answer.
I am just pointing out a few things. Of course I make sure it's an app issue by trying everything on my end. Vidstep is important to me because I intend to use it.
Other people are also pointing out that embeds in smartphones are a problem.
This answers is appalling to me. As I mentioned, we can all understand how video players work, even kids, so why do you give these solutions?
I hope you will address this issue.
Thank you.

Hi Xavier,

My name's Michael, I'm the CTO over at Vidstep.

What device do you have and which OS?

From the devices, we've tested there don't seem to be any issues but we'll further investigate so we can resolve this issue for you.

We want to build the best product possible, so any help you can give us here will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks Xavier!
