Has Potential, But At This Point Not A Canva Replacement, Sadly :( Back I Go

Don't get me wrong, I take leaving a less-than-stellar review seriously, but as a current Canva user and seeing reviews here that aren't totally correct, I think it's important to be open & honest for potential users.

First, Crello *definitely* has potential. I enjoy how the look, feel, and presentation is so similar to Canva which would obviously be its main competitor. That's a plus, as overall the layout & interface itself is pretty good. However, there are some issues that make it not currently ready to compete and one "showstopper" that prohibits me from using it for real design work.

Canva uses "Frames", which are a variety of pre-arranged image placeholders that allow you to drag and drop images & clip art easily for quickly creating image layouts for any type of content. They can also be resized non-proportionally, too. I use a 2 x 2 Frame or 1:2 3-image frame often, for example, for my article featured images (and for infographics as well).

However, sadly I discovered no such thing exists in Crello. There are "masks", which are smaller non-geometric image placeholders that can ONLY be resized proportionally. I verified this with support, which took about 4 days to get an answer with, by the way!

I can't do my work if I can't use images freely. It baffles my mind why this huge gap in functionality exists. Apparently we can only current reuse existing images in Crello which can be resized however they're not in a framed & easily used structure like in Canva. Masks are pretty much useless to me as they can't be adjusted into rectangles or other shapes proportions as needed.

The elements like lines etc (I use these often in infographics) are good. However, overall, the functionality is sluggish and slow to update in real time when making changes - not an issue in Canva. Also, as someone else mentioned the color selector is not very user friendly and needs to be thought out better. Also, where are easy to find controls to change layers for elements?

Unfortunately, I can't get any work done if I can't use my own images so for now I'm back with Canva. Hopefully Crello will grow & catch up - if not I guess that's how it goes. I hope so but for now I can't personally recommend it.

Thanks!
