One of My Best AppSumo Purchases
I have purchased many lifetime deals through AppSumo, as well as several directly from developers elsewhere, and VocalLab stands out as one of the better purchases I have made.
I have been using it to produce a full narrated edition of a book, so this has been a substantial real-world project rather than a brief test. The voice cloning quality is impressive, the audiobook workflow is genuinely useful, and the ability to work in individual blocks makes it possible to refine pacing, pronunciation and delivery without rebuilding everything from scratch.
The platform is not yet perfect. I have encountered occasional bugs during regeneration: a sentence may become misaligned, a regenerated block may unexpectedly retain the previous delivery, or another small inconsistency may require attention. However, these issues need to be viewed in the context of a product that is being actively developed. Improvements continue to appear, including better pauses between blocks or lines, and the overall movement has consistently been in the right direction.
Importantly, regenerating an occasional block has cost me very few additional points. The main cost has been a small amount of my time, which I am happy to trade for the quality and flexibility I am receiving. On my Tier 3 plan, generating the original narrated book of 2 hours used only about two-thirds of my available points, even allowing for the sections I needed to regenerate. For my current workflow the allocation has been more than ample. Teams or users producing several books simultaneously may have a different experience, but the point allowance has not restricted my project.
That generous allowance also makes the occasional regeneration bug much easier to accept while the platform continues to mature. The workarounds have remained affordable, the output quality makes the extra effort worthwhile, and the pace of development gives me confidence that these issues will continue to be resolved.
Support and discussion around feature requests have also been encouraging. Suggestions are considered thoughtfully rather than disappearing into a void. That responsiveness gives me confidence that VocalLab is being developed with serious users and longer-form production workflows in mind.
One lesson I have learned from lifetime deals is that while the feature list of an LTD is important, it becomes less critical if development does not continue after the sale. Too many products slow down or effectively stop evolving. VocalLab has so far demonstrated the opposite: continued improvement, useful communication and a willingness to consider practical feedback.
Despite the occasional bug, I am comfortable giving VocalLab five stars. It already provides excellent value, has become a useful part of my publishing toolbox, and its development trajectory makes the purchase even more worthwhile.

Sep 24, 2026nextstep β a full narrated book is about the most demanding thing anyone has put us through, and reading this properly was the best part of my week. Thank you. π
You named two real bugs, so let me not wave them away:
The regenerated block that keeps the previous delivery β I think we know exactly what that is. To stop a retry costing you points twice, we briefly hold on to a generated line, and if you regenerate with everything identical you can get the same take back instead of a fresh one. That's us saving you points in the one place you actually wanted a different read. We're fixing it so a regenerate you deliberately asked for always gives you a new take. Until then, the workaround is to nudge the speed by 0.01 or change a comma β that forces a genuinely different one. β¨
Misaligned sentences β we recently fixed two timing bugs in that area (sentence-final punctuation and performed tags like [laugh] were being given the wrong duration, which pushed captions out of step with the audio). If you still see it this week, send us the block and we'll chase it properly.
Your point about the allowance is useful to hear too β two hours of finished book on about two-thirds of a Tier 3 month, with room to regenerate, is exactly the headroom we were aiming for.
And the thing you said about lifetime deals going quiet after the sale: that's the one we take most seriously of all. Keep holding us to it. π
