I originally purchased VocalLab for a small, purely private fun project. I am a software developer myself and enjoy experimenting with AI. The idea is to automatically turn short texts into audio files using a custom-cloned German voice. To be honest, my expectations were fairly cautious, especially since good German pronunciation is still far from guaranteed with AI-generated voices.

After running several tests, however, I am genuinely satisfied. Voice cloning in particular works surprisingly well when clean, high-quality source material is used. The cloned voice sounds clear, easy to understand, and remarkably natural. Even subtle expressions such as sighing or clearing the throat sound convincing with my cloned voice. Of course, not every emotion is completely perfect yet, but the quality exceeds the requirements of my private project by a considerable margin and, in my opinion, already comes quite close to well-known solutions that are significantly more expensive.

At first, there was an issue when selecting German voices. The language filter only displayed a few voices with more of an English than a German accent, while the actual native German voices were hidden elsewhere in the Voice Library. I described the issue to the support team in detail, and their response was remarkable. They not only confirmed the problem, but fixed it very quickly. The filter now searches the entire voice catalog and correctly displays all suitable German voices. This is exactly how I would expect a developer to respond to constructive feedback.

My contact with the support team was also friendly, professional, and exceptionally committed. It is clear that this is not simply another AI product that has been released and left alone. There is genuine interest in user feedback and in continuously improving the platform.

My recommendation for German-speaking users is therefore: do not limit yourself to the standard voices. Be sure to try cloning your own voice using good-quality audio material. In my opinion, this is where VocalLab shows its real strength.

For me, five stars are well deserved: good overall quality, highly usable German voice cloning, plenty of possibilities, and a support team that takes problems seriously and visibly acts on them.
