Promising Features, But Too Buggy to Rely On
I noticed all the 5-star reviews, so I couldn't help but go for it with three licenses. Surely it had to be amazing based on how positive people were rating it.
But then the reality hit...
Webstarts has potential, but at its current stage, it feels unfinished and inconsistent. The DNS records handling is immature, and moving records can easily break things—including email, which is a serious drawback. I also ran into issues trying to activate SSL; the process felt buggy and unreliable.
The “Start with AI” option was underwhelming, asking only a handful of questions. I expected a much more guided process for creating a tailored design and layout. Even when trying to create a new site from a template, I was logged out unexpectedly, which added frustration. The site editor itself looks outdated and takes some time to get used to.
On the positive side, I was able to set up sections, add content, and create new pages. The drag-and-drop builder is straightforward, elements snap to grid, and there are premade sections available for quick assembly. Native AI image generation and stock photo access are nice touches, and simple animations can be applied during scrolling.
That said, the UI often feels unresponsive, and the options for illustrations and graphics are quite limited compared to a tool like Canva. For single landing pages, I’d still prefer Canva because of its freedom, ease of use, and richer creative elements. Where Webstarts could prove useful is in building full websites with multiple pages and navigation—but in its current state, it’s not reliable enough to be my go-to.
Verdict: Good ideas, but too buggy and outdated right now. With further polish, it could become a viable option for multi-page sites, but for now it’s best suited only for light experimentation.
