Q: Just to get this out of the way for everyone, a quick google search for reviews on the product brings a kind ...
of sketchy reddit post up about the company. Would love to see if you guys have a response, considering this is a lifetime deal.
From reddit:
Whelm.app, a competitor to apps like Frame.io and formerly known as JumpStudios, just disregarded early supporters who purchased a lifetime plan before the app was even remotely usable and now we're prompted to subscribe, just a warning.
A little backstory, a few years ago I was listening to the learn videography podcast with Kyle Loftus and JJ Englert and I enjoyed it as a newbie and learned a lot. I was still finding how I wanted my workflow to be all those details for my business and I was using Frame.io at the with Honeybook.
They announced one day their new platform, JumpStudios in the very early stages, and I thought it was perfect and something that was missing from the market so I beta tested, gave feedback etc. Then they offered a "Lifetime" plan, and I knew there was a good chance of the site not taking off and it being bunk, but I like the owners and I really supported the platform. Mind you, the app was NEVER fully functionally to any degree you could use with a client, but I lost track of development and I've been using Dubsado and JumpShare (similar name, no association) and I've been happy with it.
Some months back JumpStudios announced they were acquired by another party and would be rebranding, I thought it was cool and thought maybe they would get a bigger team to make some progress on it. It was in the back of my mind until I got an e-mail from their marketing team and logged in out of curiosity to see me facing a message that my subscription has ended and to pick a new plan. Now don't get me wrong, it's not about losing the money, and to be quite honest, it just looks like the team around the app knows nothing about the end users, and it's all a mess, so I don't even see myself using the app if my account was active, but it's insane to me, granted they changed ownership, that you would blackball the people who basically donated +$200 to your app early on and then expect them to pay for a sub par app. I can't imagine more than 50-100 people even signing up and paying that much less who plan to actually use the app.
No alternatives, no 1 year free, nothing. To me that's just incredibly shady and I just wanted to make a quick rant/post about it here in case anyone searches in the future can see.

May 14, 2024A: We're aware of that post on Reddit. Here's the backstory:
During a routine update to our software last year, we accidentally created bug that caused a handful legacy accounts to temporarily go inactive. As soon as we were made aware of the issue, the problem was resolved within a couple of hours. It really wasn't a big deal.
Bugs happen, but we took care of it quickly. Unfortunately, this user didn't contact us for clarification, and instead jumped to Reddit to rant.
Perfect! Glad to clear that up for everyone considering the product. It looks great. Will be trying it!
