Initial test-run very positive

Just to see how it would go, we tested YouBooks on a difficult topic, giving it very little guidance, except allowing it to use internet sources.

The resulting draft -- a 100 page book -- was surprisingly good as a draft.
It used 117,000 credits of our monthly 700,000 credits.
That's excellent value.

We'll now proceed with giving it another go, using the full range of available tools -- content sources, setting the tone, and providing a more carefully designed prompt and instructions.

Neither the platform nor its founder over-promise. It's clear that both the human user and the AI system have to put in the work -- each doing their bit. That's true of all tools, isn't it? AI is not, and never will be, a substitute for human thinking.

There were a couple of points of confusion with the interface, but these are (in our view) more than offset by the thorough & transparent reporting that's provided. And some of the confusion was most likely due to our unfamiliarity with the process. No big deal.

Very impressed.

An excellent platform that, given the founders energy and dedication, will continue to improve.

Without hesitation: 5 tacos!

I went ALL IN, and I am glad that I did. (I am a retired college educator and paid consultant.)

First off, I hate giving grades. A through F are meaningless to me. Yet I'll give it.
5 tacos = the platform is easy to use, easy to understand, and has enough features, and a lengthy enough prompt space to get "mostly what you want."
4 tacos = because it does not allow me enough space to enter enough of my own previous content, so that it learns to write like me, use my lexicon, my voice, my style, and build upon what I already know and want to convey.
3 tacos = because it does require me to go through the manuscript carefully, and edit, change, improve, shift the tone, etc. Which is a great deal easier than writing and editing from scratch, and on a Word, Pages, or Scrivener doc. (I LOVE Scrivener by the way.)
5+ tacos = because I have invested in their journey, and so far, this is the best I have seen. Certainly better than the AI platforms, which do OK, but chunk by chunk, by chunk.

I am glad that I invested in it. I use it 2x a week. And, foresee using it monthly when I am the mode.

Thoughtfully Made, High-Quality Books

I’m really impressed with Youbooks. Their books are made with a lot of care and clear editorial judgment, and the end result is excellent.

Everything feels thoughtful and well put together — from the structure of the content to the overall design. It’s obvious that quality and coherence are a real priority for them.

I would happily recommend Youbooks to anyone who appreciates well-made, meaningful books.

Big Claims, Major Limits

The headline promise doesn’t match reality. A 10MB upload cap makes “use your source material” impractical for nonfiction research. The platform also lacks the depth of controls needed for consistent style/voice across a full manuscript, and content-source workflows aren’t strong enough to support credible, structured nonfiction. If something breaks, the 24-hour support response time stalls production. I purchased months ago expecting improvements, but the same core limitations remain.

Actually, youbooks has the strongest consistency across manuscript from any book maker app. It's also the only app that allows you to train a custom model to apply the same voice on the entire manuscript. So, in terms of consistency, there is nothing better on the market by a long shot.

If you know a tool that does can generate a 100K word book in a more consistent tone than Youbooks, we would...

Almost there...but not quite yet

I wrote two to three books using human models and advanced models on youbooks.

To be honest, I have provided a very detailed outline, style inputs, and even created human models with lots of material. So, I'm not really sure why it is essentially writing a lot on the topic. I'm not sure whether it is worth it because the quality is not quite there yet. It is repetitive, and it is not quite connecting from one chapter to another. At the same time, I think it's basically pulling information from the internet and rehashing content. So, I don't think it is essentially doing a good job.

As a writer, from a writer's perspective, I think I would probably skip this. The credits and the plan look good, but I am pretty sure I'm hoping that it continues developing because right now it is not quite there yet.

Probably going to refund unless the founder launches a few quality updates soon.

Thank you for the review.

Youbooks aims for a repetition between 3-7 times (this is what human-written non-fiction books actually exhibit). We've had customers complaining because a concept was repeated for a second time. I am not saying that this is your case (we don't know your project/account), but it is worth pointing out for other users. If you don't want any repetition, then you don't want...
