Great workflow and totally heading in an exciting direction
Youbooks has a great workflow that has clearly been put together by someone who knows about AI and the strengths and weaknesses of AI. A lot of book generation type tools just throw it into ChatGPT, or similar, and give you back whatever is returned and the only secret sauce might be improving your initial prompt and formatting the end result a bit better than the default. Youbooks takes things to the next level.
The ability to customise what you get out is great. You can provide the system with the information you want it to make use of in creating the book. So, for example, if you have a library of reference works you want to use, just upload them, or it could be documents you've saved, etc. The great thing here is that once you've created a data source, which does use up some creits, you can reuse that data source without burning through credits for uploading each time.
Style wise you can give the system a detailed style prompt, which you can reuse for multiple books, or you can go the extra mile and use a human model. I really like the idea of the latter as it allows you to create a very personal style that has exactly the right tone and language usage as you desire.
The book creation itself is slow, which I REALLY like. These tools that spew out a book in seconds really are not giving it the TLC it deserves. The process that Youbooks is going through is much more like I'd go through if I were using AI to do it manually (research, outline, first draft, etc, etc) and I know how long this takes soo Youbooks doing all of that work and more, is very much appreciated.
The end result is over 80% of the way there to an awesome book, or more. Yes, there is editing needs to be done, but the system has generated a lot of quality content that I can then knock into shape in the way I want to see it. I actually think this is important, as I want to add my own stamp on the book.
Is the system perfect. Not yet, but I feel it is further down the line to a perfect non-fiction book writing tool then anything else I have seen, and it is important to remember that the is really an MVP not a mature product that has been in development for ten years, and fine-tuned by an army of one hundred thousand users.
I feel there is still some work to do on book layout, but that is, if anything, the easy bit. The hard bit is getting the AI workflow right and I think Youbooks is already do awesome work on that front and I sure it will just keep getting better and better.
And what I love most of all is the direction this is heading in. There's already so much awesomeness baked into the system, and I am sure that over the coming months it will just keep getting better and better, so I am so glad to be along for the ride.
Keep up the awesome work!

Oct 4, 2025You made our weekend! You hit the nail on the head here; youbooks is 20% the app you see, and 80% backend workflows, in terms of effort and lines of code. Thank you for a great review - not much to add to it, really :)
