Q: Custom Route Drawing Over Water (Boat Tours Use Case)
Hello Tobias,
I run boat tours on a lake and I’m exploring how to use AvoMap to map our routes. What I’d like to do is the following:
Instead of only defining a start and end point, add custom points (way-points) sequentially on the map — for instance: one point in the middle of the lake, then another point further on the lake, then another, etc.
Each click on the map would add a new point, and the route would go from our boat-start → point #1 → point #2 → point #3, etc., reflecting the exact path we take on the water.
Ideally the route would follow the water surface (not just roads), or at least allow me to force the path between points to go “over the lake” rather than default land-routing.
Is this “click to add way-points on water” functionality is currently supported?
Thank you.

Nov 9, 2025A: Hi there, and thanks so much for your question!
Routing over water or creating boat routes is a highly requested feature, but it’s not yet available in AvoMap. Right now, I’m in the middle of developing AvoMap v3, which will come with many improvements and new tools.
Once that version is ready, I plan to add a “drawing” tool that will let users freely create custom routes — not limited to streets or roads. That would make it possible to show routes across lakes or open water, perfect for your kind of boat tours.
I’m a one-person team, so things take a bit of time, but this feature is definitely on the roadmap. I just can’t give a reliable ETA yet — thank you for your patience and for the great suggestion!
