Q: What is difference between AvoMap and Map Director? Map Director seems to be offering same features for free.

If you can please educate us about the difference.

A: Great question! And you’re right, there is overlap. MapDirector is a great tool and works well for certain use cases.

The main difference is how the tools are used. AvoMap lets you create routes from scratch — by clicking, dragging, or searching for places — so you’re not dependent on pre-recorded data. It also supports different routing types like street, river, train, or fully custom paths.

One thing that’s quite specific to AvoMap is that you can mix different transport types within a single route. For example, you could map out a journey where you drive to the airport, take a plane across the Atlantic, grab a cab to your hotel, then continue by bike or even switch to a boat for part of the route. It’s all handled in one timeline.

Rendering is handled differently as well. AvoMap renders on our cloud servers, so once you start, it runs in the background and you can keep using your computer normally. With MapDirector, rendering happens in the browser. In practice, you need to keep the tab active and avoid using your computer during the render time.

With AvoMap, there are also options like adding your own logo or using it in a white-label way, depending on your workflow or if you work for clients.

So it really depends on what you need — MapDirector is great for quick visualizations, while AvoMap is more suited if you want to build and edit routes more freely and have a more reliable rendering process.
