Q: Zoom ranges, 3D buildings, historical video clips.

Hi,

AvoMap is very interesting. I have a few questions:

1. What is the current zoom range? Are you planning to expand it?
2. When zoomed in, is it possible to view 3D buildings?
3. Can it be used to create clips for historical videos featuring:
groups of people from historical eras, horses, vintage vehicles, ships and planes from a historical period, etc.?

Thanks.

A: Hi there, here we go:

1) The current zoom range goes from 150,000 km all the way down to 0 m (though I wouldn’t recommend going that close — you won’t see much anymore 😄).

2) Yes, 3D buildings are included in several of the base layers available in AvoMap. They start appearing around 600 m camera elevation. For the best visuals, I recommend keeping it around 400 m and using a slow camera movement.

3) That’s a very unique use case! It really depends on the kind of images you want to upload. For example, you can definitely add a picture of an old car as a custom route bubble. However, animating groups would be more complex — especially if you plan to show multiple tracks at once. Currently, AvoMap only supports animating a single track, not several simultaneously.

Ok, thanks.
Thinking about video clips to insert into historical videos,
AvoMap could be used instead of video animation software,
I ask this:
1. Are the moving icons only on a circle or can they have any shape and size, even with a transparent background? I'm thinking of groups of people or vehicles moving from one area to another in linear motion, without thinking about road routes.

The moving bubble at the front of your track isn’t limited to just the default bubble. You can upload custom images to replace it — including ones with transparency.

The image is created with Photoshop, with a transparent background, and placed on AvoMap.

2. Is the base that of Google Earth or can it also be the "default" one of Google Maps with relief?

3. In the case of point 2, can the layers of roads, cities, various indications be selected and deactivated?

2) AvoMap comes with 10 different map layers, many of which include terrain reliefs, yes.
3) Roads and cities can’t be toggled individually, but you can choose from different map layers — some include roads, others don’t.

4. If AvoMap doesn't do this, is it complicated to adapt your software for a broader use like the one described?

Thanks

There’s a feature request board where you can suggest anything that makes sense for a broader audience. While bug fixes and essential improvements come first, I do my best to implement popular requests whenever there’s time and enough demand.
