A Missed Opportunity for Growth and Customer Satisfaction
When I first saw Avomap, I was excited. Finally, an application that transforms boring map displays into interactive videos. Moreover, the app allows adding additional points and information, including elevation maps and other great features. I decided to give it a try, even though the number of videos per month is quite low. After purchasing the product, I was thrilled with the numerous options and settings available in a very simple and intuitive interface.
However, my initial excitement turned to disappointment when I realized that the commercial license was not included in the offer and had to be purchased separately. As I intended to use the videos for a commercial website showcasing hiking opportunities around my town, I didn't hesitate to pay an additional $49. Then, I encountered another surprise: if I wanted to present the videos under our community site's brand, I needed to purchase a Whitelabel license—not as a one-time fee for all videos, but as a $129 fee per video.
The next day, I received an email from the creator with a refund for the commercial license payment and a new pricing model. Now, if you want both a commercial license and Whitelabel, you must commit to paying $89 per month! I'm not sure if the creator of this SaaS realizes it, but these types of videos are mainly used for presentations and cannot be easily monetized on a monthly basis. This pricing model is simply impractical. Because of this, I'm considering requesting a full refund.
I believe that since providing a commercial license and Whitelabel incurs no additional cost for the creator, it would be more appropriate to monetize larger video packages. If clients are satisfied, 5 videos per month won't be enough; they'll want more. Given the API and other costs, this model makes more sense.
Therefore, I recommend that the creator add another tier to the Appsumo deal that includes commercial licenses and Whitelabel for all videos (5 videos per month) and monetize any additional videos created beyond this limit. Otherwise, this current deal structure doesn't make any sense.

Sep 25, 2024Wow, this is fantastic feedback! Thank you for taking the time to break it down.
These past few days launching AvoMap on AppSumo have been a wild ride. The amount of feedback I've received from users across various businesses around the world has been incredible, and I'm truly grateful for it.
I won't deny that I've made some mistakes along the way. I’m a developer first and a not so good marketer second. My communication skills have definitely been challenged, but I hope to take valuable lessons from all the feedback.
If I understand correctly, you’re saying you’d prefer to buy a one-time license that lasts 'forever' and that I should just sell the Video Credits separately?
Again, thank you for your insights! 🙏
