I've purchased 2 codes but would like to expand and have more codes to cover multiple websites instead of activating-deactivating domains each time. Are you planing to return to AppSumo?
A: Thanks for your question Steve. I think they don't get altered, but let me double check with the developers. You can also quickly try it out on a demo instance on https://tastewp.com
The developers confirmed: those don't get altered. If you have any other questions, please shoot!
Q: Hi Nick, is it also possible to upload and install a downloaded backup to a new domain directory via FTP ...
without first installing a WordPress instance, as with Duplicator? If not, is this planned? This is a very important feature for me and would make Duplicator and Updraft obsolete.
A: Hi Olli, thank you for your question! Do you mean some kinds of script that will set up the WordPress and restore the site by a single file upload? If so, what's the precise reason you need it?
Hi Nick, thank you for your reply. Yes exactly, like Duplicator originally works: I download a packed archive file (and probably an installer.php), upload both to an empty FTP directory and can start the installation via new-domain.com/installer.php
For me personally, this is simply more convenient than having to install a WordPress instance and a plugin beforehand. However, I am already very enthusiastic about the staging function of BackupBliss, so I will definitely stick with it :-)
Hi Nick, I've tested the plugin a few times now, with backups and staging sites, and have had problems with every site so far, so I've had to resort to another solution. I've been waiting for feedback from support since June 24 and have just asked again today.
Thanks Olli for reporting this, that's unusual, let me check what's going on. We'll reply by email.
Q: Hi,
Is the following scenario possible?
1. I will create a wordpress page for the client on a subdomain. I then migrate wordpress to the client's hosting and transfer the wordpress site to the client's domain on their hosting.
2. I have an existing wordpress website on one hosting. I want to transfer my wordpress website to another hosting under the same domain. Is it possible to do this? Thank you for answer.
I used it this way for a migration and uninstalled it. Just did it again for a client and now it's saying it's maxed out. How can we disconnect the license from a domain we only migrated from staging in order to use the license for others for ongoing
Sorry for the delayed response, we didn't receive a notification. You can just reach out to us at support (at) backupbliss (dot) com and we let you know on which sites the licenses are currently active. Then you can let us know on which sites we should disable them, reducing your activation count, so that you can the license key on other sites.
Q: Is this possible with Backupbliss?
(Directly or via a workaround) 1) Backup to my local Synology drive. 2) Stage directly on my LocalWP on Mac (not export, import)
A: 1) Not directly but workaround possible, if you attach your Synology drive as remote/network drive in your filesystem, you can simply specify path to that drive directly. Note: paths outside WordPress root makes backup download impossible via WordPress, you will need to use FTP, or connect the same drive as virtual on other/side server if you want them to be shared across multiple sites.
2) No, there is no dedicated way to spin staging sites with LocalWP unless your site is running in LocalWP environment. However, you can use TasteWP.com as your sandbox environment :)
Sorry for the delayed response, we didn't get a notification about your question. FTP should come out very soon, e.g., in 1-3 weeks. Let me align with the developers about your other question.
Can support backup , restore , migrate WooCommerce Store ? e.g. backup live store regularly. In case live store has issue after wordpress / plugin / custom update, we can restore from the backup ? also, create a staging site from the live site for testing ?
Q: Can you explain more clearly how the licenses are managed and works in this deal, perhaps with example(s).
Are the license keys controlled via an account dashboard and can see what domain they are activated on etc? How does the transferring of licenses work? Are licenses more locked down if your using it for incremental backups as aposed to migrations etc? Thanks
A: Thank you for your questions. After activating the premium plugin, you'll get prompted to enter a license key, enter it, activate it, done. You can then deactivate the license key (to reduce the activation count by 1) to use it on another site.
For managing the license keys, we use Sellcodes.com. You're raising a good point - currently it's not possible for you to see an overview where your license keys have been activated. We'll work on that. However for now, it should also work quite well: you just deactivate license key whenever you don't need it anymore on a particular site. Once you've hit your activation count limit, you just reach out to us, we tell you where the license is still active, you tell us on which sites you don't need it anymore, and we'll deactivate it.
If you deactivate a site, can the site be reactivated by someone else who doesn't have the activation code? On some plugins, the code is stored and automatically reapplied if code is reactivated, if plugin is reactivated, if plugin is deleted then re-installed.
Hi Steve, the activation code doesn't get automatically stored, but needs to be entered again. That's because an agency may want to use a plugin on a client's site temporarily (e.g., to perform a migration), and deactivate the license after that, without giving the client the option to use it again on that site. Does that make sense? :)
Q: As others have mentioned, will you consider increasing the limits on the higher tiers?
They're a bit low considering the product is still fairly basic with many essential features missing still.
A: Thank you for your question! Yes, and we responded by launching higher tiers with higher limits. The higehst tier now includes 100 licenses, which is a lot, especially considering that you can migrate licenses from one site to another. It's a steal! :)
Q: Do you plan to add synchronize the database between live and staging site functionality?
- synchronize only changes. The standard live and staging site have a biggest drawback that if any changes happen on the production site - like new orders received - it is not possible to restore the staging site or get the updates from live site deleted.
A: Thank you Viliam for your question! You can always make a backup of your database only (i.e., not the files), and then only restore that. Is that what you meant? If not, please elaborate further. Thank you!
Hello, the idea is similar to this: https://wpvivid.com/db-merging. I need to update only the staging and production environment changes. It is not just enough to synchronize the whole database.
Okay, thank you for the clarification Viliam! We put it on our feature pipeline list here https://rateitall.com/list/backupbliss-feature-pipeline. Please give it an upvote so that it rises in our to-do list :)
Q: Hi Nick,
I have recently purchased BackupBliss with 25 licenses from AppSumo and have already uploaded and ...
activated the plugin on my websites. However, I am experiencing an issue with my security plugin, MalCare (https://www.malcare.com/). After installing and activating BackupBliss, MalCare is identifying the BackupBliss plugin as a potential security threat, stating that my website has been hacked.
Is there a way to configure BackupBliss so that it is not flagged as malware by the MalCare security plugin? Your assistance in resolving this matter would be greatly appreciated.
I look forward to hearing from you soon with a solution.
A: Thanks Serkan for reporting this. To prevent the plugin getting nulled, we encrypted part of the plugin's codes. Some security scanners then think "I cannot read it, so it must be bad." It's a wrong conclusion of course, but that happens with some of them. We'll reach out to them and notify them that they shouldn't show this false positive.
Q: Will BackupBliss automatically delete older backups from remote storage (eg: Google Drive)?
That's the issue I'm facing with my current back up plugin. I have it set to delete backups older than 14 days and does it locally but not in remote storage so I'm constantly doing it myself to free up space which is a huge inconvenience.
A: Thank you for your question Whitney. Right now we don't delete it from Google Drive automatically. We didn't get this request before, but it's certainly valid, so we'll put this on our to-do list!
Not sure if you're familiar with MainWP but it allows you to manage multiple WP sites in a single dashboard, so maybe features like applying setting to all sites, remote backups/restore, stats in the MainWP report, etc.
Okay, thank you for the clarification. We'd need to look into that. For now, we're focusing on implementing the other features you see on https://rateitall.com/list/backupbliss-feature-pipeline
Q: Hi, some questions:
1.)
Staging Sites: - when I create a staging site => where will the data beeing stored (database?). And will Backupbliss clean up the database and the files on the server, when not needed anymore? - When a staging site crashes - is removal easy?
2.) Migration: - Is BB making the changes to the links (old link => new link)?
3.) How reliable is support in case of problems?
These questions are very important vor me as a small website agency
A: Thank you Sasha for your questions! Let me answer them in turn:
1) You can decide if you want to create a staging site locally (e.g., on https://your-domain.com/staging) or on TasteWP.com. In both cases removal is super-easy and clean.
2) Yes of course, our backup will take care of updating the URLs in case of a migration.
Hi Nick, thanks for replying. MainWP allows us to manage multiple WordPress sites from a single dashboard. With a BackupBliss integration, it would mean we can centrally configure/manage BackupBliss for all client sites.
Thank you Sri for clarifying this. We'll now add it on our list of things to look at. We cannot give any time commitments though, as we first need to implement the features you see on https://rateitall.com/list/backupbliss-feature-pipeline :)
Q: Do you support pCloud as a external backup solution?
A: Thanks Dennis, it's on our list, see https://rateitall.com/list/backupbliss-feature-pipeline. It will be available eventually. We cannot make any commitments in terms of timing, but if you want us to prioritize it higher, please give your vote! :) Thank you.
A: Thanks Matt for your question! Yes, currently it's only Google Drive, but we're working on others, see https://rateitall.com/list/backupbliss-feature-pipeline. We cannot give any ETAs as of now, however if you have a preference for which external storage option to implement next, please give your vote, so that it's higher on our list! :)
Q: Hi,
I'm currently testing out your plugin in its free version.
I noticed the "Encryption" option, which allows encrypting data and securing it with a password. Does this encryption feature also apply to automatic backups? Would I need to create a password for each zip file, or is it a one-time setup?
Also, I'd like to submit a feature request to enable separate backups for the database and the site. For instance, I'd prefer to back up the database more frequently than the entire site.
Q: Not a classic question, but just an observation and comment on what many others have already written: I would ...
seriously consider taking this deal—License Tier 3—if it had a 50-site limit, even though the licenses are transferable from site to site. Many of us need regular backups for sites, so we can't activate and deactivate licenses all the time; it doesn't make sense (from the efficiency point of view).
I am also on the fence, if we buy and you decide to increase limits will we receive the additional limit or should we wait until you guys realise that's the thing holding alot of us back?
We're currently waiting for feedback from AppSumo if we can offer a Tier 4 for 398 USD which is good for 50 sites. If you are in a rush, you can get the Tier 3 first, and then either get it again, or refund it to get the Tier 4 once available.
