This plugin is great, I have only two questions after using:
1) Is there any way to extract individual files on my computer from the backup file generated by the plugin? I can see in the help section an option to do this for backup files generated by the the cloud version, but not the plugin version.
2) Is there a way to import and export plugin settings? I've tried to look for this but I might have missed it.
Delighted to find the answer to question 1 above is that I CAN extract files from non-cloud backups, fantastic! I was looking at an older support page, but I found the new support pages with updated info via a review on here by SteveRevere.
This is easily 5 tacos. Thank you
Only question that remains is that is it possible to import and export plugin settings to other sites?
Also, a small feature request, API keys would be a great way to manage multiple installation licences for various reasons.
Thank you for the questions. I see that you found the answer to the first one. As for the other questions: it's currently not possible to export and import the plugin settings. But it's certainly a nice idea so I will add it to our wishlist.
And we have had many requests regarding the licensing via API key. It's been added to the Roadmap here, so please, upvote for it. https://trello.com/b/8tFuNU2s/backupguard-roadmap
Q: Hey!
Can you please let me know does Platinum Plan include lifetime Emergency Support?
BackupGuard supports multi-site installations (both of which you mentioned) and with our plugin, you will be able to backup and restore multi-site. However, in case of a multi-site you won't be able to backup or restore only one subdomain or convert the single installation to multisite one. You will need to backup and restore the whole network.
Seems you're referring to the migration service that we offer. That's a separate service not having any connection to this deal. It is one time and works like this: you order it, fill in the information needed. When the info is filled in and is accurate, then it takes us up to 2 business days to carry out the migration. In case the information is not full and/or accurate, our team contacts you for it. As soon as it becomes full and accurate, the migration process will start and again, shouldn't take more than 2 business days.
Our team handles the process of the migration - no matter you simply change the domain, the host, etc. The process is the same for each scenario.
In any case, it is possible to migrate yourself as well. But the service that we do the migration - wasn't part of the deal.
Q: I am having issues with resource usages with Backup Guard.
Even though I have Background operation enabled, CPU usage goes from 15% to 70% when running a backup, Physical Memory Usage goes from 200MB to 1.9GB, I/O goes from near 0MB/s to 12MB/s.
These are really high figures. Everything default other than Background operation turned on.
We have (and still do!) carried out multiple tests with the plugin and the highest results we have had so far is no more than 10% for the CPU. It shouldn't affect the RAM usage this much as well, the maximum we've had is like 100 MB. So, can I ask you to please carry out another test making sure there is nothing else working at the same moment? This will help us understand if those numbers are related to processes running by BackupGuard.
As for I/O, the number you got is the similar to our results. We're preparing a big update regarding it which will have the I/O usage issue fixed.
I see. Thank you for submitting the info to our support team as well. In that case, it would be better to continue the communication via live chat/email in case the team needs to ask for info that shouldn't be shared publicly.
Q: Hi,
I'm using InfiniteWP for Backups but also for PluginUpdates.
Is the option to update Plugins on the Roadmap? If yes, will it be included for Platinum Users or does ist come with extra costs as additional plugin?
Indeed InfiniteWP manages to Update Plugins, Wordpress Core and Themes centralized wit the possibility to schedule this or do it manually. This service started long time before auto updates where on the Wordpress Roadmap, but i think it's still a core feature which saves a lot of time. https://new.infinitewp.com/features/
A: Hey there! Thanks for reaching out. It's Andrea from BackupGuard. In case you want to use only the Scan option of the plugin, sure, you can turn off all the Firewall options, although no issues were detected when using our plugin along with the WedArx.
On another note, we have added the feature of having the incremental backups to our RoadMap and you can upvote it from here, so we will consider its implementation: https://backup-guard.com/roadmap Let me know if you have any other possible questions.
A: Hi there! Thanks for getting in touch. It's Andrea from BackupGuard. You are right, currently, the incremental backup is available only with the cloud service.
The feature is already in our RoadMap and you can upvote for it, so we will consider its implementation: https://backup-guard.com/roadmap Let me know if you have other questions.
Plugin updates will be available for 1 year of time, then you will be able to either renew (by only paying 60% of the initial price) or keep using the plugin without updates. ___________________________________________ I found it is from your website. How your product will offer lifetime usage? WordPress always updating itself every year and forcing update all other plugins together with updated WordPress. How i can use your plugin if you are not allowing us for update after 1 year? I think you should mention about this offer as "1 year unlimited usage offer" instead of lifetime usage.
See, generally, our plans are subscription based - meaning that in order for a person to get continuous updates and support, the plan should be renewed annually.
BUT this deal allows you to have a real lifetime support, which means that if you purchase it, you won't need to renew it. The purchase of this deal is one time (which is indeed exceptional) and guarantees a lifetime of updates and support. This the deal terms are different than what we generally offer on the website.
Thanks for getting in touch and for your interest in the offer.
Let me answer your questions.
tuhinbhuiyan March 2, 2021, 10:24 a.m. | 14 Deals Bought | 1. Why I should pick this over BackupBuddy? What is the best about it? - Actually, our WP Backup plugin and BackupBuddy have very similar features. Both have manual and scheduled backups, restores, migrations, backups to cloud, etc. What I noticed that we have more is multisite support. We support multisites as well. And well, of course, the other thing is that currently this deal is a lifetime one, however, BackupBuddy's service is subscription based- meaning one should renew each year to get updates and support.
2. Why the most important voted roadmaps are still not in the development process and only some low votes are being worked on? - The Roadmap is still in the process of formation. Of course, most voted features will be implemented, but there is no ETA for them now.
3. Do you have a semi-automated web migration system like BackupBuddy? - By saying semi-automated, what exactly do you mean? Could you clarify this a bit?
Just to note, our migration works like this: backup the source website, install a fresh WP on the destination website, as well as our plugin, and restore the backup of the source website. So, it's pretty simple.
2. As a customer of a product anyone would have expected most essentials updates to be applied on a product they are gonna use it. Most of the upvotes are extremely wanted ones as I see which are missing.
3. By automated I meant, In backup buddy, we use a script after transferring our files to a remote destination and use a script call importbuddy.php to unpack the zip file and restore the database properly and also that script updates all the URL to new website path according to our settings.
With our plugin, you will also need to do the following with the destination website: install a fresh WP, install our plugin, then import the backup file - restore it. That's it. The rest is done by the plugin. I don't know if you would consider this to be semi-automated or no but this is all you should do - a few simple steps.
Q: Looks like an excellent deal!
Can you confirm how long support (chat, email, tickets, etc.) is available for? Is it lifetime as well? Or something less?
The support and updates are available lifetime only in scope of this deal. So, when purchasing this deal you get both lifetime while in other cases, both are subscription based on an annual basis.
Q: In the last 24 hours, I have purchased the "Platinum Plan" and have tested the plugin on a few sites.
Based on my testing, this deal is worth the investment but the plugin still needs a lot of work in order to compete with the likes of SnapshotPro, BackupBuddy, UpdraftPlus. Features I'd like to see are:
1. Full backups should ideally include all of the WordPress folders/files in the public directory and not just those in "wp-content". This is useful for when an entire site needs to be restored (server crash, accidental delete, etc.) and also if there are custom values in the wp-config.php file.
A "wp-content" only backup should be an option but it should not be labeled as a "Full backup" as this is a bit misleading in my opinion.
2. Options for backup retention should be set on a scheduled backup basis. For example; I would like to retain 1 most recent copy of a full backup on the server whilst retaining 3 most recent database only backups.
2.1. Options for cloud backup retention. This should also be set on per scheduled backup basis.
3. The option to create backups in .zip or .gzip format and not only in your proprietary .sgbp format.
Whilst I have seen you address the concerns of vendor locking in recent questions and stating that your format is superior to .zip in some instances, giving users the choice to create backups in a more universal and accessible format would be ideal. I have played around with your SGBP Extractor and it does not seem to work for all files, especially large ones.
I would propose still offering the .sgbp format for compatibility and possible space savings but I'm sure most users will sacrifice a few MB to have a file in an accessible format and having the peace of mind that if you go out of business (hopefully not) that they can still easily access the files in their backups.
4. Allowing websites to be linked via sub-accounts or API keys (which are hidden to users upon verification). I'm certain that a lot of your clients on the Platinum plans are agencies and do not want clients to have access to their account information (or registered name).
5. Allowing migrations and complete restorations to be completed without having to install a fresh instance of WordPress. A solution similar to the importbuddy.php (BackupBuddy) would be ideal.
Additionally, I would like to confirm if the database backup is the file located within the wp-contents/uploads/backup-guard folder?
Please note that I have brought my feature requests up here as I cannot find any instructions for how to submit them to your roadmap.
Thank you for the suggestions. It was the correct thing to bring them here since only we can add features to the Roadmap based on our customers' feedback.
So, let me go over the suggestions.
1. This is actually something connected with the WordPress restrictions regarding the backup plugins. Not only our but most of backup plugins are allowed to backup the wp-content only.
2. A pretty nice idea. We will be looking to refine this feature in the future.
2.1. Noted this one as well.
3. Thank you for sharing your thoughts on .zip and .sgbp. This point has been noted as well.
4. Regarding the licensing via API keys: we have head multiple wishes like this and that's why added it to Roadmap here: https://trello.com/b/8tFuNU2s/backupguard-roadmap Please, upvote for it to increase the chance of a sooner implementation.
5. Added this one to wishlist as well.
And last but not least, yes, the DB backup is located in the same folder.
Let me know if I have addressed all points or there is anything additionally you would like to get addressed.
I quite disagree. In plugins like Backup Buddy, you can do a complete backup including the wp system files. This will be a useful feature for complete site migration as Full Site Backup and more meaningful.
Thank you for the information. Then hopefully we can have the migration you mentioned too some day!
Q: Hi there, I have purchased 2x code and noticed that BackupGuard has a cloud service offering.
How can us enjoy the cloud service offerings from getting this deal? Will we have a complimentary 1GB for a start
Cheers mate and your support has been good, especially Andrea who is striving to help your customers by close follow ups after the problem we have reported. Keep it up!
A: Hey dear Sum-ling! I am Susie from BackupGuard.
Thank you for the purchase. It's nice to see you among our customers. :)
See the Cloud Service isn't included in the deal - only 2 WP based plugins are at the moment. So, there is no deal for it. However, I suggest contacting back our support team once again so we can come up with a profitable solution for you. :) You can even send this question link for reference in your message sent to us.
I see. Sorry for the impression you had. It's not included in the deal this time as mentioned. Only 2 products are: the WordPress Backup and Security plugins.
If there are any other inquiries, please, let me know.
Q: I bought Backup guard yesterday, and it works like a charm
but I have 1 question
+ I start to backup my ...
website to a *sgbp file EX: "backup point.sgbp " - clear website without any plugin + Then I installed 1 plugin EX: Woocommerce + After that I backup my website to "backup point", after set back to that point, I still see plugin Woocommerce====> So my question: backup guard just overwrite system not replace my system to clear version?? Doesn't it?
I am very glad to see that you like our plugin. See, we don't delete anything that we don't overwrite, i.e. if the WooCommerce wasn't initially included in the backup, you installed it afterwards and then restored the backup, we don't do anything with WooCommerce since it wasn't included in the backup in the first place.
I am still confusing here so procedure like this: 1/ Create backup of the clean website (no addition plugin except Backup Guard): Full backup 2/ Install any plugin after that: ex Woocommerce 3/ Start to back up to clean version at step 1: Restore Full (database+files)-- so the result must be: clean website without Woocommerce---> Is that correct?
3/ Start to back up to clean version at step 1: Restore Full (database+files)-- so the result must be: clean website without Woocommerce---> Is that correct? The result must be clean website with WooCommerce, since it wasn't included in the backup in the first place, so we don't "touch" it.
BackupGuard supports multi-site installations and with our plugin, you will be able to backup and restore multi-site. However, in case of a multi-site you won't be able to backup or restore only one subdomain or convert the single installation to multisite one. You will need to backup and restore the whole network.
Let us know in case of further questions.
Q: Very happy so far, but I cannot see a way to create incremental backups?
The docs say I can but the UI has changed since then. I have some extra directories that I'm OK backing up weekly but not every day.
So glad to see you're very happy with the purchase. :)
See, we currently don't have incremental backups with the WordPress plugin. However, it's something we're looking to implement in the future. You can upvote for that feature here to increase the chance of a sooner implementation.
As for the documentation: my guess is you saw an article regarding our Cloud Service having an incremental backup and that's why even UI looked different. We do have incremental backups in our Cloud Service, but that's a different product and is not included in this deal.
Askmimet has more advanced spam blocking features. However, there is an option called Block Referrer Spam in the Firewall section of our Security plugin which is helpful for blocking spam: https://prnt.sc/104j9fm
The plugin is fairly new and it will include many more features - not just anti spam now. :) We are working on improving it with many new features in the future.
Q: I just redeemed the code and was browsing through the dashboard and such, and I noticed 84,95$ for migrating a Wordpress website.
A: Hi there. Welcome onboard and thanks for the question.
Besides the products we offer, we also offer a separate service for when you want us to perform a migration for you. In that case, we just get the needed details from you and do everything ourselves. This is a separate, one time service and not included in this deal.
Of course, you can perform a migration yourself with our plugin as well in the scope of this deal. However, the migration we can do for customers isn't included in the deal.
Yes, there is. Our plans are subscription based on the website - which means in order for you to get updates and support, the subscription should be renewed annually. While the plans we offer at AppSumo ensure a lifetime of updates and support.
1 - do you off all future updates including new features?l in platinum plan? - All future updates will be available in scope of this deal - even the new features. Not sure which plan will include which feature for now though. 2 - does the platinum including lifetime customer support? - Yes, it does. 3 - can I encrypt the backup? - Not for now. However, it's been added to the wishlist.
Hi Susie, Thanks for your reply. Last question and then I will be purchasing it the Platinum. You will be my first purchase on Appsumo. 4 - Is there any limitation purchasing though appsumo compare to your website expect for price?
Q: using a week.
it is not easy. for example you can't know how to restore from cloud. How can i restore a different domain using cloud backups?
Do I understand it right that you already have a backup made by our plugin in a cloud and want to restore it in another website? If that's the case, then this is what you should do. 1. Connect the plugin to the cloud from the plugin Cloud Settings of the destination website. https://prnt.sc/103ik4y 2. Import the backup from the connected cloud. https://prnt.sc/103iksk 3. Restore the imported backup. https://help.backup-guard.com/en/article/restore-a-backup-44jpzs/ using a week.

We have (and still do!) carried out multiple tests with the plugin and the highest results we have had so far is no more than 10% for the CPU.
Kind regards
Susie_BackupGuard
May 14, 2024A: Hello Samuel!
I am Susie from BackupGuard.

Keep it up!

May 14, 2024A: Hey dear Sum-ling!
You can even send this question link for reference in your message sent to us.

I was under impression, cloud is included but its not. Disappointing to see the Cloud Service isn't included in the deal.
Hi!
I see. Sorry for the impression you had. It's not included in the deal this time as mentioned. Only 2 products are: the WordPress Backup and Security plugins.
If there are any other inquiries, please, let me know.
Q: I bought Backup guard yesterday, and it works like a charm but I have 1 question + I start to backup my ...
website to a *sgbp file EX: "backup point.sgbp " - clear website without any plugin
+ Then I installed 1 plugin EX: Woocommerce
+ After that I backup my website to "backup point", after set back to that point, I still see plugin Woocommerce====> So my question: backup guard just overwrite system not replace my system to clear version?? Doesn't it?
Susie_BackupGuard
May 14, 2024A: Hello there!
I am Susie from BackupGuard.
Let me know if this explains it.

I am still confusing here so procedure like this:
1/ Create backup of the clean website (no addition plugin except Backup Guard): Full backup
2/ Install any plugin after that: ex Woocommerce
3/ Start to back up to clean version at step 1: Restore Full (database+files)-- so the result must be: clean website without Woocommerce---> Is that correct?
Let me clear this up.
As for the point 3:
3/ Start to back up to clean version at step 1: Restore Full (database+files)-- so the result must be: clean website without Woocommerce---> Is that correct?
The result must be clean website with WooCommerce, since it wasn't included in the backup in the first place, so we don't "touch" it.

OK , I got it, Thanks Susle
Have a nice day
You're very welcome. :)
Have a nice one as well.
All in one works in the same way, this plugin supports multisite backups? if I do it can after split in differents websites? Thank you
Hello dear Pablo!
Thanks

May 15, 2024A: Dear Sumo-ling!
I am Susie.
Let me know if this explains it.

Q: Are anti-spam features like askimet included?
Thank you!
Susie_BackupGuard
May 15, 2024A: Hi there.
Thanks for the question.
Askmimet has more advanced spam blocking features.
However, there is an option called Block Referrer Spam in the Firewall section of our Security plugin which is helpful for blocking spam: https://prnt.sc/104j9fm

Would love more advanced anti-spam features! Thank you!
The plugin is fairly new and it will include many more features - not just anti spam now. :) We are working on improving it with many new features in the future.
Q: I just redeemed the code and was browsing through the dashboard and such, and I noticed 84,95$ for migrating a Wordpress website.
Is this not included in the plan?
Susie_BackupGuard
May 15, 2024A: Hi there.
Let me know if this explains it.

Q: Hi, I have few questions please 1 - do you off all future updates including new features?
l in platinum plan?
2 - does the platinum including lifetime customer support?
3 - can I encrypt the backup?
Looking forward to your answer.
Susie_BackupGuard
May 15, 2024A: Hey! Thanks for getting back to us.
Yes, there is. Our plans are subscription based on the website - which means in order for you to get updates and support, the subscription should be renewed annually. While the plans we offer at AppSumo ensure a lifetime of updates and support.

Hi there.
I am Susie.
Let me answer your questions.
1 - do you off all future updates including new features?l in platinum plan? - All future updates will be available in scope of this deal - even the new features. Not sure which plan will include which feature for now though.
2 - does the platinum including lifetime customer support? - Yes, it does.

Q: using a week.
it is not easy. for example you can't know how to restore from cloud. How can i restore a different domain using cloud backups?
Susie_BackupGuard
May 15, 2024A: Hi there!
This is Susie.
Do I understand it right that you already have a backup made by our plugin in a cloud and want to restore it in another website?
If that's the case, then this is what you should do.
1. Connect the plugin to the cloud from the plugin Cloud Settings of the destination website. https://prnt.sc/103ik4y
2. Import the backup from the connected cloud. https://prnt.sc/103iksk
3. Restore the imported backup. https://help.backup-guard.com/en/article/restore-a-backup-44jpzs/
using a week.
Let me know if any further assistance is needed.
