Your new product Cloudmoo seems quite similar to backup sheep. Basically as close as possible of a product without being the same product.
1 year free trial as a beta tester for (some) backupsheep LTD buyers is a bit of a kick to the face.
The open source (currently not usable) backupsheep could be quite promising if you relaunched backupsheep as the managed version of the OSS project. Probably more promising than the original business. Would you consider that?
Reneging on included storage space is a lot better than reneging on everything entirely, then launching another similar product.
The developer could be killed by the costs of maintaining large storage areas. He probably didn't anticipate how much all this would cost him. And he didn't find anyone paying the subscription fee, nor did he have any other means for development.
Can Appsumo Refund my deal ??? i often invest in Appsumo deal even i'm not using it now. Honestly i have use backupsheep as my main backup system. but it already shutdown. :(((
A: Focusing on features which can attract more paying users and specifically business/agencies. Took few weeks off that’s why there’s no major update since Feb.
Hi Jack. Roadmap is not public anymore. I think it was creating more distraction. The next updates will be significant. Follow our Twitter or Facebook, I post updates on upcoming features often. https://www.facebook.com/backupsheepofficial https://twitter.com/backupsheep
Q: Hi, has product development stopped?
No updates for 3 months ago and many items in the roadmap are pending. Should I be worried?
A: I was travelling and took some time off. Going forward roadmap will be private and we are going to focus on features which can attract monthly paying users.
Q: Yesterday the ship was sinking and today everything is announcement normal without any explanation on how ...
BackUpsheep is suddenly able to cover all storage costs?
This is not very transparent and does not build any trust back into the company and also Appsumo. So please clarify clearly what exactly changed and how you guys plan to move forward.
A: Your support in marketing and feedback so we can attract new monthly accounts. Plus we are switching to Hot and Cold storage. 50-60% of files are 30+ days old so we can put them into long-term archive storage like AWS Glacier which is like $0.99/TB
We thought storage removal will be smooth for AppSumo users as well because our monthly users didn't care about included storage. However, storage was the only highlight of our AppSumo plans. So after getting 300+ tickets it was clear :)
Currently, we are not losing money and we are not making money. So things are stable-ish and would love your support to grow further.
Also, we stopped giving away 50GB storage with our Free Developer plan.
We have thousands of members with on developer plan. For example, 1000 Developer accounts take 50TB of storage. I think 100-125TB was used just by users on the Developer plan.
So discontinued that 50GB and now offer 1GB to any account using on free Developer plan. This resulted in many upgrades to monthly plan :)
Q: Is your announcement about discontinuing backup storage a joke?
A: Yes. Everything is the same as before. The update you see in From Founder section is approved by AppSumo. We had a call and discussed a few options - the best solution was to keep everything as it is and ask our 2000+ AppSumo users to help with marketing and feedback so we can attract new sales.
A: It is still on roadmap. There were other priorities so a lot of promised features were delayed. I don't have ETA but most likely before end of this year.
A: Hi. Yes, you can connect your storage account like AWS S3 or any other storage options we support and choose it as a backup destination (you can select multiple) in the schedule.
So our servers in Europe will generate a backup, compress the backup and then upload it to your storage and then delete all files.
We had multiple locations a few months ago but hardware and bandwidth are not available in US/Canada. As we grow and more options become available then we will definitely add a US location next.
A: Hello. Restore is manual so you have to download files and databases and then upload them to the new hosting account. We can help you with the transfer if the files are big.
We planned to release the restore feature 2 months ago but there were other priority items. So it's being delayed. At some point this year, there will be a restore from the UI feature available because we have already started development.
A: Hello. You have to manually download files and upload them to your hosting/server. Same thing for databases. If files are too big then we can help you transfer files.
We started development of restore from UI feature but there were other priority items. So it's delayed and will be released sometime this year.
A: Hello. We have more generic integrations using FTP/SFTP/FTPs, SSH and Remote Database access. It's by design to keep things simple and to support future enhancements :)
I have explored cPanel APIs but it's too much work and backup depends on the server.
It's a bit of work if you have 100 cPanel accounts but it's a one-time thing :)
A: Hello. As long as you don't plan on cloning the full server. We are not designed for full server images. If you want to backup specific files/folders then BackupSheep is perfect.
It will be a full backup. However, we are working on incremental backups as well.
Bilal, Thank you for quick response. In my case, I have a directory that has 100s of sub folders and files. Every time a new file is created I would like to sync those to OVH. I have 6 TB of data at this point. Is that doable? I don't want to sync it with Backupsheep storage. If needed I can tell which files to sync.

Q: What's going on with open-sourcing the application and posting on GitHub?
- Really loved this solution, don't need to the storage, just need the functionality for WP sites and DO droplet snapshot automation!

There is always risk.
The developer could be killed by the costs of maintaining large storage areas. He probably didn't anticipate how much all this would cost him. And he didn't find anyone paying the subscription fee, nor did he have any other means for development.

How do you use it, what protocol do you use❓
🤔
Appsumo will not refund because you only have 60 days to return it.
All that remains is to look for a commercial offer.

You're welcome. So we don't have real-time sync deamon which you can install on server and push files to backupsheep.
Once I get some time in next few weeks I will hire help to develop scripts to cover usecase like yours.
