A Good Loom and Screencast-O-Matic Alternative for Internal Use
SUMMARY
Berrycast is a good alternative for those that use Loom and Screencast-O-Matic. Berrycast doesn't have many other bells or whistles, but for what it does (which is recording your screen, organizing your recordings, and allowing others to view it), it does it pretty well.
CONS:
>I don't think this is as polished as Loom. I think it's sluggish. It has never frozen up on me. But I can never move quite as quickly as I would like.
>I have to re-enter the password for a video I recorded again...and again...and again. If I'm making a lot of videos (which I have) in a UX that's already on the sluggish side, it becomes really annoying really quick.
>I can't assign my extra codes to my team because I can't take it back if I assign it to them. I would have to stack to the unlimited user option to remedy this, and that's not really what I need either.
>Even though my uses for this are primarily internal (VA training and feedback etc.), it doesn't bother so much about their branding during video playback. It is a bit much, and I probably wouldn't recommend it to someone whose needs are client-facing.
>There's no way to minimize the menu that sits at the bottom of the screen during video recording.
PROS:
>You can drag and move recordings to a folder. This might seem like it's silly, but this has been a UX complaint I've had with Screencast-o-Matic for a long time.
>There's a menu that sits at the left-hand side of the screen for quick access to start a video. At first, I thought this would annoy me, but it has been a smart UX move on Berrycast's part.
RECOMMENDATIONS
Would I recommend this to someone else to buy this LTD? If your uses are internal and you don't need another member of your team to have access, then it's a no-brainer. YES! It works well enough, and for how much you're saving paying for Loom it would be worth it.
If your uses are client-facing or you need a member of your team to be able to record their screen, then Berrycast might not be the deal for you.

May 9, 2024Hi themurse,
Thanks for this complete review. It's really huge, with a lot of detail and a lot of valuable feedback. Thanks!
Can you explain me why you find it "sluggish" please? I'm very curious about that.
For the password, if you are the author (and login), you should not have to enter the password. If you are not the author, you should enter the password one time only by browser. If your experience is not accurate, can you tell me in what context did you see that. Preferably say it on our contact page but it can be here too if you prefer. https://www.berrycast.com/contact
You can now unassign and reassign code like you want, it's live since yesterday!
We would do a whitelabel feature to remove the branding and put yours.
You can minimize the record control bar with a shortcut (CTRL+ALT+C). You can see the all list of shortcut into the setting page throw the application.
I wish you a great day!
