Great app. Direct download link in the video page makes it look sketchy though

Hey guys, this is a great screen recording application. A Loom killer in the making, I would say. I would love to see blurring for private information, but so far I've had a great experience with the simplicity of the system. It just works, and the video quality has been great for me so far.

Two things I would like to be able to do:
1. I would like to know how to add a profile picture though, since I haven't been able to do that.
2. I would like to get rid of the recording dock, and use it with keyboard shortcuts.

The one big problem I see when using this for clients, which is the biggest reason I bought it, is that the "Get Berrycast for Free" call to action triggers a direct download for the app. Here's a video https://www.berrycast.com/conversations/6735aa8d-483b-504c-bdb2-767d5185c632

I have no problem with you trying to get people to download your app, but it's a standard practice to state in the call to action what the button does when clicking on it, otherwise you might come off as sketchy/scammy to someone who's never heard of your company before. To be clear, you should call it "Download our desktop app now" or something along that line.

I think that if you do that, more people will actually download the app through that link, because the way it is now, actually triggers a natural reaction of distrust, since you didn't tell people what that button would actually do.

The app deserves 5 tacos actually, but the sneaky direct download approach is not something I can associate my brand with. So for now, I can't use it with clients. I will update the tacos when this is updated. Or refund if it's not.

Hi joedavid,

Thanks for the feedback and really explain your thought. It's really clear and valuable for us.

The blurry option is cleary something we think about. So it's a +1 on that.
If you connect your account with Google or Microsoft and have a profil picture, that will automatically used it. If not, or if you want to change it, you can't for now.
We plan to add the option into the setting page at one moment, but it's not something really asked for now.

You already can hide the record control bar with (CTRL+ALT+C). You can see all the shortcut via the setting page throw the application.

I understand your point about the CTA label. For our point of view, "Get Berrycast for free", give you berrycast for free with the free application as a gift. We don't force the installation, we let people choose what they want to do with that.

You can't really use berrycast if you don't have the application (or the chrome extension). So, to have berrycast, you need to have the application. The onboarding process is actually into the application too, so it's the firt door for everything.

If you want berrycast, you need to download it. But we can't explain that with a CTA button. That why we say "Get berrycast for free" and not "Download berrycast for free". Downloading is a scaring thing in 2020, we don't want to scare people and we don't feel like we lie with that label.

Do you better understand our point of view? And I totally understand if you don't find it good or anything. I just hope I explained our reason well.

I wish you a wonderfull day
