Q: What is the difference between Discussion and Updates pages, besides title?
They are nearly identical.
From what I understood, Updates is to share where you are at in a project so you can let your team know the latest on the things you are working on like "I just finished the technical setup of the website!" it's not something to discuss, probably no one will comment on this but just to make the team members on the same page.
Discussions on the other hand are meant to discuss issues, ideas, suggestions, etc.. it's meant for starting a conversation with your team, brainstorming together, figuring things together, think about it as what you'd post into Slack.

We're also going to be modifying both features in the future so you'll see some divergence.
Updates is going to actually have recurring questions that managers can set up to have regular reports from team members, while discussions will turn into more of a Outlook-style email setup, or even potentially more of a forum-like experience.
