Q: Hi, I am sure I am not the only one that is still confused about the whole workspace member versus user ...

business even after reading your help page (https://help.butter.us/workspace-roles-and-permissions) and responses on here. It would be great if you could help me clarify some things.

Each tier comes with an unlimited number of workspace members correct?

If we get Tier one for example we could invite an unlimited number of workspace members of your websites “free plan” type which means they could not start sessions from my (owner level) workspace? Did I get that right?

If i wanted my workspace members to be able to start a session, collaborate on a session and be able to record a session I would need to buy more “users” by upgrading my appsumo tier?

To exemplify, could you elaborate on what 100 workspace members on a Tier1 appsumo plan could do and what they couldn’t do?

I am sure a lot of people are still confused by the whole thing and this might help clear things up.

Thanks

A: Hey,

Happy to help clarify! I think it's a mix of AppSumo and Butter concepts that might confuse a bit. Can totally see it.

Firstly, User=Member=workspace member.

On free plans, you can only add 5 members to your workspace. On paid plans (incl. AppSumo plan), there is no limit - but each member needs to be a paid member.

So you'd need to have a plan (either AppSumo or "normal" Butter premium plan) for each additional member you add.

Each member are able to independently start sessions.

You're max able to stack 10 AppSumo codes=20 members. 20 members would be able to start 20 sessions independently, each with a max of 30 participants per session. You'd have a total recording pool for your workspace of 20x90 minutes.

Hope this clarifies - otherwise let me know!

Hi Jakob that was a lightning fast reply!

I think it clarifies things quite a bit and I agree that the terminology seemed to be the issue.

With what you have explained in mind, do collaborators and facilitators need to be workspace members?

And is it possible to create multiple workspaces for different departments eg. one for marketing, R&D etc?

Great to hear, Scrata!

Collaborators: You can have guest collaborators from outside the workspace :-) Works well for temporary/external projects

Facilitators: You can add extra facilitators in the session - that can be anyone - even people without accounts

Multiple workspaces: We recommend putting people under one workspace, but then using Rooms to differentiate departments. We'll also soon (next week, I think?) have a "Room Project Folder" structure released that helps just this!
