Bytes is highly praised for its rapid and effortless course creation, AI-driven workflow, and smooth course hosting and selling. While some users have mentioned limited editing flexibility and occasional AI generation issues as minor drawbacks, Bytes remains a strong choice for those seeking a micro-course builder. With an overall rating of 4.0 and a 60-day money-back guarantee, it's definitely worth considering.

Almost amazing, but Bytes has one HUGE issue (and several smaller ones)...

Let me start off by saying the Bytes is good at what it says it does: it's a quick & easy way to transform ideas, notes, or even transcripts into mini-courses that you can then sell easily.

As some people have pointed out, it's not super flexible in what it does, but for one, its simplicity and lack of options is part of why it's so quick & powerful; and secondly, it's flexibly is enough for most use-cases (unless you want to achieve something very very specific, in which case you'd probably be better off using something more advanced).

With that being said, there is one HUGE issue with Bytes:

You CANNOT change the slide/page template layout after it has generated (what I mean is whether it's multiple slides, or image + text, or flip cards, or a checklist, or bullet points, etc.). And the AI seems to choose the template completely randomly, without any concern about whether or not it's the best way to present the specific information on the slide/page.

Now, sure: technically, I would be able to go in, create a new slide/page from scratch (or even duplicate another one with the right layout), write the text myself, add images, etc. But that would take A LOT of time – defeating the purpose of a quick & easy, *almost* automatic AI course builder.

And this is SO frustrating, that it overshadows my otherwise good experience with the tool. Because of this, I haven't been able to generate a single course that I think is ready to sell, and I'm stuck trying to decide whether I should spend time on creating slides/pages from scratch, or just give up because there's too many slides/pages I'd have to create manually.

So, my suggestion/request?

Add a button to regenerate the slide/page (using the same information & details to fit the flow of the course) with AI in a different layout. And let users choose the layout for the regeneration!!!

I've seen multiple AI tools support this – for example, Gamma (gamma.app) kind of already does this with its presentations – so this should be a relatively simple task to achieve.

And in a broader sense: it would also be nice to generate more quiz questions with AI. Generate new – specifically prompted slides – with AI. And generally just use the AI more flexibly while creating a course altogether.

Additionally, there are a few smaller issues I've noticed:

• The texts in the mini-courses are NOT optimized for skimming. You get huge – almost intimidating – blocks of identical texts, no bold, no italics, no white space, nothing!

• The AI's research capabilities are bad – to say the least. Every time I uploaded a document and specifically requested the AI to do its own research to fill in the gaps, give actionable insights, provide examples, or make logical connections/conclusions, the results fell short of my expectations.

• Not all images get generated. In every course I've created so far, some images are left blank. Not a huge issue, since I'm able to come up with an image prompt and generate one myself. But it's still a bit frustrating, and makes the experience feel buggy.

• AI doesn't follow instructions. I've used the SAME document and tried to create a beginner, intermediate, and advanced course from it. And the results were almost the same exact course, with a slightly different layout. No additional depth for the advanced course. No initial explanations for the beginner course. Just the same stuff, packaged slightly differently.

• No custom domains. I've asked the Bytes team about custom domains before making my purchase, so I can't really hold this against them. But it's still weird that you can't connect your own domain to your courses. Yes, I know there's technically a workaround, but that requires a lot of extra effort, especially if you don't have a website where your courses could fit in seamlessly. This just makes it feel a bit unprofessional, and I really hope the devs will consider enabling custom domains in the future.

• And finally: the entire thing feels very much like AI – in the worst possible way. The text is full of unnecessary AI fillers: buzzwords, rhetorical questions, and other AI generated nonsense (for example – and I quote: "Alright, you copywriting rockstar, are you ready to unlock some serious copywriting superpowers?"). I'd much rather make everything sound more human, and use the space taken up by all this garbage to provide additional depth, explanations, examples, or context.

Now, before you get the wrong impression: Bytes might be a decent deal already, and it definitely has huge potential!

If the devs take my feedback seriously, and address the points I've mentioned above, then Bytes just might become the best course builder I've ever tried. And in that case, I'd be very happy to edit my review and give them the 5 tacos they will surely deserve. But otherwise, I just might refund this tool, because as it stands, it's nowhere near ready to rely on to create quality courses, and simply doesn't live up to its promise.

cool idea, lacks alot of features

creates simple courses...doesn't go past 20 slides...cant create a beginner, intermediate and expert level courses easily...you get cross over if you use the same document

so youll need to break up the document or information into levels first then create

needs better payment options or a donation option

limited editing and no download option available

a lot more that this tool misses on but you get the idea...not gonna waste time writing it ALL OUT

Hi there,

Thanks for taking the time to share your feedback. I’m sorry to hear Bytes didn’t land the way you expected - I’d love to clarify a few things because some of the points you mentioned may just be misunderstandings of how the platform works.

Course length
You absolutely can create courses with more than 20 screens. The platform recommends keeping courses under 20 screens simply because...

Great Concept: But I Can't Use It Because It Won't Connect to My Stripe Account

I am ultra-enthusiastic about Bytes, but I am stuck at an impasse; I can't monetize my courses because Stripe wants me to open a new account, and I already have one! I've emailed support, even sent them a screenshot, and they responded asking me for what I had already sent them, and to date, I haven't heard from them with a solution. I'm thinking about asking for my $$$ back because I really needed this software to create a course as an upsell for a summit launch I have that starts in a week. Frankly, I don't know what else to do.

Hi there,

Firstly, thank you for taking the time to share this - and I’m really sorry you’ve had this experience. I completely understand how frustrating that must feel, especially with your summit launch coming up so soon.

You definitely shouldn’t need to open a new Stripe account to use Bytes. In most cases, you can simply connect your existing Stripe account and start selling your courses...

A Simple Alternative to Complex LMS Platforms

Overall, I like the concept. Bytes seems especially strong for short trainings and micro-courses. It’s fast to build something meaningful, and the AI helps generate a usable starting point. Here are a few observations and ideas after testing it:

1. Great for micro-learning
Bytes works best for short, focused lessons rather than long courses. It’s ideal for quick trainings, onboarding modules, or knowledge refreshers.

2. AI drafts are a good starting point
The generated course structure is helpful, but it usually needs refinement. I found it better to build and adjust the course step by step rather than relying entirely on the first AI output.

3. Editing could be smoother
Sometimes rearranging or editing elements (like flashcards) feels a bit rigid. More fluid editing would make course creation faster and more intuitive.

4. Nice “all-in-one” learning environment
It’s interesting that Bytes combines course creation, hosting, and learner access in one place. For creators who don’t want a complicated LMS, this simplicity is appealing.

5. Certificates would be useful
A simple course completion certificate or badge would add value, especially for professional or continuing education.

6. More design customization
The visual themes are clean but basic. More control over colors, layout, and branding would help courses feel more polished.

7. More interactive question types
Short trainings benefit from quick interactions. More quiz and knowledge-check options would make courses more engaging.

8. Presentation mode could be powerful
Bytes could work very well as an interactive companion during live webinars or workshops. A dedicated presentation mode might make this even better.

9. Capture learner information
Being able to collect name or email variables would allow more personalized courses and better communication with learners.

10. AI guidance after course creation
It would be helpful if the AI suggested learning goals, improvements, or quiz questions once the course is generated.
In sum:
Bytes is a promising tool for creating quick, structured learning experiences without the complexity of traditional course platforms. With a few improvements, it could become a very powerful micro-learning builder.

Oliver, thank you for such a thoughtful and detailed review. This kind of feedback is incredibly valuable.

You captured the core idea behind Bytes really well. It’s designed for short, focused learning experiences - micro-courses, onboarding modules, quick trainings, and knowledge refreshers. The goal is to remove the complexity of traditional LMS platforms and make it fast to turn knowledge into...

Bytes good for shorter training

Hello,

Let me share my thoughts about Bytes. I was playing with it yesterday. I am an instructional designer in my day job, so that influences my thoughts. I did like it. I was able to get a course created in a couple of hours, because I had to go back and make edits. I find the first version is so-so.

I actually prefer doing it slide by slide versus doing one shot, as I find the one shot deal to be so-so in its output.

I had some editing issues, particularly on flashcards where it wouldn't let me move to or edit a flashcard here and there.

Bytes is an LMS in that it hosts courses, shares them, and allows you to track paid users by the looks of it.

It would be nice to have certificates for things like CE credits.

It would be nice if you opened up the theming so I could purchase better themes, because I find the themes are kind of basic.

I'm going to experiment using it as an interactive slide deck for virtual presentations, so people can follow along with me.

It would be nice to have some variables, especially for things like capturing a person's name and email.

I'm always looking for more options when it comes to quizzing. Expanding the types of quiz questions that can be asked is great.

I would like you to breakout quizzes to a single question because sometimes I just want to do a knowledge check after a section and just do one question, which as far as I can tell, I can't do currently. I can use single questions throughout the course as a way to reinforce info. It looks like it must be a quiz currently.

I did find the font a bit small. As someone who's getting older, smaller text is harder to read on screen, and when I'm doing a PowerPoint, it's always at a minimum of 18 point font size. So I do wish the font was a little bit bigger.

And I would like to be able to export SCORM files. I get that you want everything within Bytes, and there's a reason for that, but there may be times when you want to export to SCORM and use elsewhere. So the ability to export to SCORM would be awesome.

For people who are not learning designers maybe a way to ask AI to suggest improvements to the design to the course. I do this with AI and it it quite helpful in my day job. Also have the AI share the 1-3 learning outcomes after the course is created. Quiz questions should also align with learning outcomes to prove they have been achieved by the learner.

I would also like to export the text of the course as I sometimes turn this into a job aid.

Overall, I am happy with the product.

Thank you for such a thoughtful review and for sharing your perspective as an instructional designer. Feedback from people who build learning experiences professionally is incredibly valuable for us.

It’s great to hear you were able to build a course quickly, and your approach of refining slide by slide is actually how many creators end up working with Bytes. The AI is designed to give a strong...
