Not yet a Tableau challenger
Not yet tried when connected to a database, only played with Google Sheets - so my review may be biased.
I used to have more than 1 data source and need to join/filter/transform these sources.
This is currently impossible with Columns. You can only have one dataset and actions are quite limited.
This tool is probably a good tool for those not very comfortable with Excel and pivot tables but if you want more complex data manipulations, this tool is not yet a must have.

May 9, 2024Hi, matuki,
Thanks for testing out Columns and taking the time to write the review!
Indeed, Columns is not a direct challenger to Tableau in terms of "data modeling" capabilities. Instead, Columns focus on streamlined data storytelling which includes:
1) story design (like Canva) - flexible styles, annotations, shapes, arrows
2) real-time collaboration, like chatting with people in place of visualization
3) easily sharing and publication for embedding or white labeling
I can see that you have deep experience in data visualization, it would be wonderful if we can meet and chat, I'd really appreciate your input on how to improve the product to its next level. And also by the chance, I would love to show some features that are not easily discovered in the current design. My calendar is here https://zcal.co/cao, and you could reach my email cao@columns.ai to schedule something, looking forward to it...
