Disappointed.

I was tempted to use the 'Add a video review' option above... but Dadan wouldn't work.

And that's the problem.

I get that there are bugs, but support has been utterly nonexistent. (Perhaps the lack of Contact information on their website should have been a clue?)

For starters, their MacOS app simply does not work. Well, it works, in so far as it produces a .mp4 file, but the .mp4 file is just completely broken and won't play.

- I tried it in QuickTime, nope.
- I downloaded VLT specifically to see if it would play it. No luck.
- I tried converting the .mp4 file into a .mp3 file, but multiple tools were able to work with the file Dadan's recorder produced.
- I tried to upload the local .mp4 file back up into Dadan to see if they could play their own video? The verdict is still out on this because the upload could not be completed. smh
- The other method of adding a video to Dadan is via Dropbox. So, I upload the janky file to Dropbox (it had a message that it can play .mp4 files -- but not this one).
- I did ultimately get the file added to my library on Dadan via this Dropbox connection and... I'll give you three guesses: "No," "No," or "No."

The file is there, saved in their library, but it's stuck in a perpetual "the file is being processed" loop. Despite the video file size being just over 350 GB, the runtime shown on the file is 0:00:00. I mean, what more confirmation do you need than that?

I have seven recordings like this. Just completely useless. Important meeting recordings that I can get back. It's just really disappointing.

On the 'Product details' screen for Dadan, the first (of two) bullet point in the TL;DR section reads:

"Record screen and webcam footage with AI-powered transcription and captions"

Well, we've already established that the screen recording doesn't work.

Let's talk about transcriptions.

I have over 20 videos in total, and I have never -- not once -- been able to get a transcription to be generated. I have multiple emails all saying the following (just insert a different date and time):

"Oops: Something went wrong!
We are unable to process your video Dadan Recording - May 05, 2026, 10:30 PM due to an unexpected error, please try again later."

What a joke.

The only way you can reach them is by submitting a message via the chat bot on the website. I submitted an exhaustively detailed issue of their MacOS app producing garbage files a week ago -- crickets.

As you can see from the timestamp in the transcriptions email failure message above (Dadan Recording - May 05, 2026, 10:30 PM), I submitted another attempt, hoping the issues have been resolved. Negative.

I really feel uncomfortable leaving negative reviews like this, but I feel like I owe it to anyone else that is considering buying into this app if/when it returns to AppSumo (it's currently sold out).

Maybe it works flawlessly on a PC, so there's that?

But I will close this review out with two words: buyer beware.

First off, thank you for taking the time to write this out in such detail, and honestly, we completely understand your frustration here. Losing important meeting recordings and then not receiving timely support is not acceptable, and we’re genuinely sorry for the experience you’ve had with dadan so far.

You’re absolutely right that this should not be happening, especially with something as core as recording and transcription. We’ve identified issues affecting parts of the macOS desktop app and the Transcript Editor over the past couple of weeks, and our team has been actively testing fixes. But regardless of the ongoing work, the experience you described is far from the standard we want users to have.

The issue with the broken .mp4 files, videos getting stuck in “processing,” and transcript generation failures are all things we’re currently investigating with priority. The fact that multiple files were affected makes this even more serious from our side.

We also want to apologize for the delayed response. Your earlier messages unfortunately got lost between support queries, and that’s completely on us. We should have responded much sooner.

If you’re still open to it, we would genuinely appreciate the chance to investigate this properly with our engineering team. If you can share:

one affected raw recording file
the app logs from the macOS desktop app
your macOS version and dadan app version

we’ll escalate this directly internally for deeper investigation.

We know this response doesn’t undo the frustration or recover the lost recordings, but we do appreciate you calling this out transparently. Feedback like this helps us improve the product and support experience, especially while we continue stabilizing the macOS app.
