Hopes on dartai
I could only check Dart at the very end of my redemption period and was very inclined to refund, mainly because the interface looks immature and the project is too new. I do have my doubts about whether this will be one of those AppSumo startup projects that stop existing in a few months. I don't see much on their changelog and don't see a clear roadmap. In my case, webhooks and an API are a must, so this was a considerable investment for Tier 4.
Not sure why, but even so, I finally decided to take the risk and consider it a long-term investment, hoping the founders remain there at least for a while and continue the app's development, as some of its features are very promising.
So, after a few days, I thought I would list my opinion as a long-term user still searching (for years now) for a good small-team task system, lately using YouTrack and mainly free Asana, which I got to hate in a way because of silly issues.
**Documents**
They clearly lack "folders" within. I don't like that so many AI chats create documents instead of including responses within the task.
**Interface**
Skills are OK, but my own instructions (chat style), when I select a description or comment, would be more sensible than only pre-created skills.
The interface in general and the task list should have a "compact" mode; I find everything too spaced out when you have lots of tasks.
Particularly, the description text spacing is way too big. I also noticed that pasting Markdown files does not keep the format. The AI responses also create headers that are way too large.
One of the few things I liked about the Asana (web) app for Windows is allowing multiple tabs.
For now, I am using the web version vs. the app for this reason.
I am missing the "Save view" feature from Asana. I understand you can do something similar with favorites, but being able to save a column format or view per space would be nice.
The home dashboard needs some options to personalize.
**The Importer** is extremely limited
No creation, completion, or modification dates.
Comments? Where are they?
Space? they all land at the "general" space?
Can not assign to a current dartboard directly
So I import, it says everything is OK, and then I find Asana sections created as "dartboards" in the general space. This should be asked during the import process. The only way to migrate is to heavily recreate the CSV prior to importing. Just way too simple.
**Structure**
One of the very few things I loved about Asana is being able to have the same task in various projects. This would be spaces in Dart. It was truly a way we overrode some of Asana's limitations, but I ended up loving it after a while. You can have a backlog project divided into sections, but at the same time include it in a sprint in another space. Once done, it clears on both. This is one task with n spaces.
