Revised: The founders have made hard choices, and hopefully set Dart up for the success it deserves!

Thankfully, the founders have listened to the feedback from AppSumo users and I think their compromise is very reasonable, especially considering they are guaranteeing lifetime AI access, at a time when most LTD AI apps give you restricted tokens/credits per month on AppSumo.

As I said before, I've never written a review on here before, but felt it was necessary because this tool is truly fantastic but was previously hamstrung by restrictions that should have been included as core, and the fact they weren't included was all but hidden and should never have been allowed. I think though that the Dart founders got some bad advice - it was no surprise that so many potential advocates for their product were turned off by the lack of integration features.

A Change for the Better:
I think the solution they have come up with to the integration issue is an elegant, fair and transparent solution. It gives API/Webhook integration options for those who are willing to pay for them, but saves the "convenience" of pre-built integrations like N8N and Zapier for those who are willing to pay more for long-term monthly subscriptions. For anyone technical who has a smidge of integration knowledge, they can set up their own n8n and zapier intgrations via API/webhook if they want. It's a reasonable compromise between the two suggestions I proposed:

Option 1: Be transparent with AppSumo customers and tell them clearly they won't get these critical features, on the AppSumo listing.
(this is now clearly shown)

Option 2: Link the AppSumo accounts to your existing account tiers, even if it just to the "Premium" entry level account, so these key integration functions get included.
(not the full set sadly, but they also need to keep some features up their sleeve for those who have already been paying monthly subscriptions, or those with more commercial needs)

I am very happy with this outcome, and I've told this to the Dart team directly. They have been very receptive to feedback, both on here and on Discord, at a time when I am sure they felt under attack. I've been impressed with their professionalism and I'll now save up my pennies to upgrade because I am wanting to invest in this tool and this team. I just need to convince my wife that an upgrade from Tier 1 to 4 is worth it (eek!). With the addition of API's and webhooks it can now be the "core" of our digital life, which is where a task manager needs to live.

Thoughts on the Dart App itself:
- The iPhone app is highly responsive and a pleasure to use
- The main web interface is also great, although both did crash a bit on iPhone (as app and via Safari) and reset back to the "You're on a trial account" welcome splash a few times.
- I wish pasting in Markdown formatted text was auto-formatted into rich text instead of showing the Markdown markup. It's the new "standard" online (e.g. Claude, Gemini, ChatGPT) and developers could learn from Noteplan and other Markdown-centric tools. It's a pity to see the ## and **text** markup and unable to read my AI reports in Dart.
- We should be allowed to rename the General space and change the icon, or delete it.
- Types appear to have their own statuses in the UI. But when you change for one, it changes for all e.g. added a "Question" type but when I changed the statuses, was changed for all Types.
- Apart from that, so far it's been exceptional and intuitive.

I sincerely thank the Dart team for listening, and changing course very quickly (within 48 hours), because I said it before, and I think now more than ever, this has the potential to be one of the best offers I have ever seen during my 7 years on AppSumo.

Some will undoubtedly complain about the cost to add integration features, the jump to Tier 4 hurts a fair bit, but I respect the right of founders to price their product at whatever feels right to them. At least now AppSumo users have a choice regarding whether it's worth it for us, which wasn't a choice we had before, so that's a huge improvement.

And as promised, I've revised this review to 5 stars, and will vote with my feet and upgrade to Tier 4 ... just don't tell my wife.

Great work guys, keep up the good work and I hope the feedback and tone on AppSumo improves from here. The AppSumo community is a diverse and experienced group of software tragics who gamble on the hopes of new startups, but they can respond strongly and vocally if they feel a deal doesn't pass the "pub test" (an Aussie phrase, but a good one). I'm glad to see you've made the changes required to correct this issue early - hopefully you've turned this around and we can now just focus on how awesome Dart actually is. Thanks again.

Hi Dave,

I really appreciate your in-depth review and for voicing your concerns. Thank you for posting! It took some time as there’s quite a lot to respond to here and we made an update to the plan today, but I’ll try!

Regarding the plan stuff: To clarify, the AppSumo plan is different from the Premium and Business plans. It doesn’t have all the same features but it also has lifetime guarantees which no existing plan has. We built this plan in coordination with AppSumo because we believe it provides absolutely tremendous value even compared to other offerings here, while still being something we can actually support longterm. We didn’t build a page on our website advertising this plan as it’s only available to the AppSumo community, and the deal is available for a limited time only. All features promised in the LTD are laid out on the product page. All available features by plan are directly visible in this sheet which we’ve also posted in the Q&A, FAQ - helpful links, and two ā€œFrom the Foundersā€ posts (basically everywhere we could put it): https://tinyurl.com/m67e9c8z. We also recently posted an update adding webhooks and API access to tiers 4 and 5 which I hope you’ll find useful! If you have any more questions or concerns here about the plan please let us know as we are trying to be as transparent as possible!

I would say that the AI features, and specifically AI chat and AI skills, are not merely a slight add-on to the free plan, but are in fact the core offering and the reason to upgrade in the first place. I’d like to also note that unlike some of those other tools that you mentioned trying, we do not charge extra for AI usage/require AI credits/etc.

Regarding the app itself, I’m glad that you feel that it is almost the perfect task management tool for you!

- The iPhone app took a lot of work and we’re still developing it out more. I’m happy you found it pleasurable to use, but you can still expect even more updates to come to improve the feel and functionality.
- We’re looking into the reported crashes you sent us. I’m not sure what happened but it shouldn’t!
- The markdown request makes perfect sense and it’s something we’re working on as well. Thanks for bringing it up as it gives us another excuse to improve it faster.
- Yes we should be allowed to rename this space. It’s actually a bit harder to implement technically than it might seem from the outside but we register this feedback loud and clear.
- We will be overhauling and improving the types process soon as well. Good eye there!
- Thank you, we appreciate you find it exceptional and intuitive. We were only able to do this because we’ve been building it with a constant stream of feedback just like this, so please keep it coming!

I appreciate the desire to revise the review rating. I’m not up to date on the exact reasons why different versions of your review were approved/denied but hopefully you can make any edits you want (positive or negative) now that I’ve responded.
