Share files with an online collaboration tool that offers a familiar desktop experience

It’s hard being a team player when your team can’t stick to a file organizing system. (“Some of us are using folders, some of us are using categories, and some of us are going rogue.”)

On top of that, you’ve also gotta worry about making your file sharing easy for external parties like clients, investors, and other stakeholders.

Wish there was a way to create intuitive, web-based desktops where you could share files and collaborate totally stress free?

    Introducing Deskfirst.

    Overview

Deskfirst lets you drag-and-drop files onto a user-friendly, online desktop that you can share with teams, stakeholders, and clients.

With Deskfirst, you can create online desktops for projects, each with its own name, branding, storage limits, and sharing permissions.

Thanks to this platform’s familiar UI, all you gotta do is drag and drop your files like you’re using a desktop—but it’s completely online, accessed directly from your browser!

Plus, the built-in file explorer lets you upload your files across multiple folder windows simultaneously.

    Deskfirst UI

Drag and drop files just like you would using a desktop!

You can share your online desktops via email to let your team and clients access everything directly from their browsers.

Deskfirst even lets you set granular permissions: Viewer, Editor, and Manager, so you’re always in control of your projects.

For quick access, you’ll be able to create view-only links that let people open important assets without any editing permissions.

    Share desktop

Share online desktops via email or a shareable link with 100% control over user permissions!

Whether you’re working internally or with clients, Deskfirst makes it easy to create an online desktop that fits your unique brand.

You’ll be able to customize background colors, logos, add cover images, as well as arrange your brand assets in whatever order works for you.

Want to make it look even more polished? Browse the integrated Unsplash library and choose a background image for your online desktop.

If you are frequently working with media files, Deskfirst’s got you covered with its built-in gallery and media player!

You can use the gallery and media player to view photos, watch videos, or play audio files of various formats directly from the platform—no extra tools required!

That means you’ll get everything you need to share deliverables with stakeholders and create unique workspaces for your clients.

Update On Tier Limits & Features!

    Hey Sumo-lings!

Since we launched two weeks ago we received an enormous amount of feedback!

Our team is super excited to hear your feedback. So first of all, thank you very much for the valuable input. While we may not always be able to accommodate every request, we are determined to improve our product and tier structure to cater to popular use cases, all while keeping our resource constraints in mind.

Transparency is key, so we'd like to take you through the journey that prompted us to update our tier structure and address some common questions raised since our launch.

A recurring concern centered around our previous tier structure:

Number of Team Members: In our previous tiers, the number of team members turned out to be insufficient for many of our potential customers (max. 10 in Tier 3), limiting the number of people who can be invited with permissions higher than Viewer to 10. That in turn, limited the ability to foster in richer collaboration experience, which is Deskfirst’s main highlight.

    Considering Team Members as Users:

The limitation on the number of team members was a result of giving each one their own Pro license and dedicated storage. While the number of “users” (now referred to as "Team members") is part of our business model, the previous licensing model inadvertently enforced this strict limit on the number of team members due to the attachment of each team member to the Pro resources (desktops, storage, etc.). Many customers pointed out that when collaborating with clients (one of our main use cases), it is undesirable to assign their clients with a Pro license or dedicated storage, but granting them editor access was sufficient. Moreover, granting the client a Pro status, and then revoking it (in order to assign it to a new client) felt inappropriate. For most businesses, the 250 GB storage limit met their needs. Although we understand that some businesses may require more, in such lifetime deals we are limited by resources and hope to provide something that will generally fit a large number of businesses.

On the other hand, we encountered users who primarily wanted to use Deskfirst for cloud storage purposes (which is not Deskfirst’s primary focus), and they inquired about creating multiple user accounts for themselves in order to utilize more storage. Clearly, as a collaboration-focused product, our previous tiers weren't designed for this. This left us in a situation where:

    • Businesses looking to utilize Deskfirst for collaboration (Deskfirst’s primary focus) were concerned with the 10 team members limitation.
    • Users primarily seeking a cloud storage solution (not Deskfirst’s primary focus) were concerned with the storage being distributed evenly across multiple team members.

    Handling the above:

This raised concerns within our team, prompting us to consult with the AppSumo team and make the decision to update our tier structure during the campaign. We worked intensively lately to implement these changes, integrate the new tiers into our system, and allow users in a previous tier to seamlessly switch to the parallel new tier directly from our platform. Additionally, we made it possible for Sumo-lings who had previously refunded the old tier to purchase and activate a new tier on the same account.

New Tier Structure: In the new tiers, we detached the Pro and dedicated storage from team members, thus allowing us to significantly increase their number. Team members, unlike regular free users, are allowed to be invited with high permissions. The number of web desktops and storage in the main account remains the same. While the number of team members is still capped, as it’s part of our business model (together with the number of desktops), their increased number will now allow collaboration with many more clients and colleagues. This change also settles the issue of signing up using multiple email addresses for the same person (another topic that raised a concern), as it’s no longer relevant with the new tiers.

We highly recommend switching to the new plan for the best experience of what Deskfirst is designed for and for ongoing support and updates. If you are on one of the previous tiers you can easily switch to the parallel new tier directly from the platform. Your main account’s storage will remain the same, your number of desktops will remain the same, and the number of team members you could invite will increase. Your current team members will remain in your team and could be invited as editors/managers to web desktops, but we will detach their dedicated storage (what’s beyond the free tier).

It is noteworthy to say that due to the large number of feedback and now better understanding of our main use cases, we are also working on changing our tier structure and pricing model in our subscription plans outside AppSumo.

In this opportunity, I would like to address some popular questions that were raised:

Q:  Will you offer white-labeling and custom domain features?

A: We recognize the significance of these features for many of our users. We understand that when you collaborate, you may prefer to promote your brand rather than Deskfirst. While we are actively developing these capabilities, it's important to note that removing our brand entirely in lifetime deals could affect our ability to offer such deals, which have been vital for our growth. To ensure the sustainability of our product, we need to maintain a product-led growth approach. Nevertheless, to allow Sumo-lings to enjoy these features once they come out, we will offer a special discount for upgrading to a relevant plan.

Q: Is Deskfirst a replacement for Google Drive or Dropbox as a cloud storage solution? Do you offer integrations with these platforms?

A: Deskfirst is primarily designed to enhance collaboration, offering an alternative way to share and work together effectively. While it's not intended to directly compete with Google Drive or Dropbox for pure storage purposes, we encourage you to incorporate Deskfirst into your collaboration toolbox. It's worth noting that we have plans to integrate with these platforms to make it easier to transfer files between them and Deskfirst.

Q: Why did you list Dropbox and Google Drive in the “Alternative to” section if you are primarily focused on collaboration?

A: We had a fixed list provided by the AppSumo team for the "Alternative To" section and it cannot be customized to products outside their list, unfortunately. While we've now modified it to better reflect our focus on collaboration, if we could, we would include more accurate alternatives like Client Portal, Copilot, and Dropbox (for collaboration).

Q: Do you offer a backup feature or a 30-day file restore option?

A: At the moment, we don't have a dedicated backup feature or a file restore option. However, we are actively exploring the possibility of adding these features, taking into account the necessary resources. In the meantime, we strongly advise users to maintain backups of their critical files either locally or using a designated backup solution.
