Is it worth buying in the age of AI?
My big question when buying Documentation AI was this. Can’t I just have an AI do all this for me instead? That sounds good until you really think about it. You are going to be running multiple pieces of software. Some to make sure the search is snappy. Some to make sure the MCP server is working well. And then you still have to keep all those pieces in sync every time something changes or updates.
I went back and forth on it for a while after our chat about using Claude Code or another AI to build and maintain my own docs site. On paper it looked like a quick win. In practice it meant I would be the one babysitting the whole stack forever. That got old fast in my head.
In the end I pulled the trigger on Documentation.ai and I am really glad I did. The product is genuinely good and very useful in the age of AI especially because of the MCP integration. I do not have to maintain all the different bits of software myself or keep worrying about whether everything stays in sync. It just works.
Running and maintaining your own documentation website takes more ongoing work than it first appears. Documentation.ai handles that complexity for you so you can focus on the actual content instead of the plumbing. For me it has been worth every bit of it.
I was confused about the AI credits too, but they seem to be very generous and the system seems to just work really well. I mean it's really nice talking to your documentation just saying replace every word X with Y and that's why this is revolutionary for us.
Roop is absolutely pushing out code like there's no tomorrow with this thing too. New features and fixes on a weekly basis.

I agree, the build vs. buy question comes up with most software. But with documentation, it goes beyond just publishing. It's also about how easily you can maintain content over time, how you generate and update screenshots, how you create videos, and how you keep everything in context as your product evolves. While we do not solve everything today, but eventually we will get there.
