Q: Why do my transactional emails to outlook.com soft fail?
Sending emails to outlook.com email addresses returns a “soft fail” error message. Looking at their Discord server, their support says this is because AppSumo customers are put on a mail server whose IP has a lower reputation, causing outlook.com addresses to reject it.
Once you send your first 10,000 messages (and establish that you’re not a spammer) - you can ask them to move your account to a different server.
So unless you plan on sending emails to anyone who doesn’t use an outlook.com address (gmail and O365 work fine, BTW) - I’d think long and hard before signing up.

Oct 14, 2024A: Hi there,
The issue is on one of our onboading IPs.
We can verify you even before sending your first 10k emails and move you to a better IP pool.
You need to understand that we have hundreds of new customers, especially from AppSumo and we need to make sure to keep our IP pools protected.
So before verification everyone is on the onboarding IP pool.
The outlook issue you are pointing out is for one of the onboarding IPs, and will be mitigated with time, microsoft has its rules to mitigate it.
So how do we become verified. Placing all appsumo users into "dirty" ip pools before we reach 10k sending is a bad idea. The first 10k, we could end up ruining our sender reputation domains. I am not buying into this non-sense unless this is addressed.
Hi there,
There is no "dirty" IP pool. The AppSumo onboarding IP pool has now as good delivery as it gets. (Same as you would get with any other provider).
Any shared IP pool has IPs that gets sometimes blacklisted and it takes just a time to fix that. It does not matter what provider you use.
We mitigate any issues that arise and move customers to different IP pools if something happens.
And if you also send less than 10k emails a month, it has no value for you to be on less used IPs, since it will make your delivery worse. (Graylisting, slower worm-ups)
