Q: subscribers are total contacts??

it seems from other comments that the 5k subscribers means we cant upload 10k contacts and have 5k on a newsletter subscription? Why not call it 5k contacts then?

A: Great question — and one that comes up a lot! 🙌

Yes, “subscribers” in Encharge are total contacts. That means every contact you upload into your account counts toward your subscriber limit — not just people actively subscribed to a newsletter or email list.

So if you're on Tier 2 (5,000 subscribers), you can upload up to 5,000 total contacts. That includes:
• People you’re actively emailing
• People in flows
• People you’ve imported but haven’t messaged yet

This is a technical constraint, not just a naming choice — because every contact in your account can be used in automations, flows, segments, CRM-like views, etc., regardless of their “opted-in” status. So even if you only send campaigns to 1,000 of them, Encharge still processes and stores data for all 5,000.

We totally understand the confusion around the term! In a perfect world, maybe “contacts” would be more intuitive, but because we also count anonymous people (from site visits, flows, etc.), we stuck with “subscribers” to match the email marketing industry norm.

That said, if you're running a large list where only a portion is active or needs marketing, there are ways to work smart:
• Only import people you need for your current campaigns
• Use subaccounts to manage different audiences (each with their own limit)
• Upgrade beyond your tier when needed — we offer 50% off regular plans for AppSumo buyers who need more subs later

Let me know if you want help thinking through your specific use case!! 🙏
