I recently had the opportunity to try out Fable, a tool designed to create interactive demos and step-by-step guides, and I must say, it's been a revelation. As someone who's always on the lookout for innovative solutions to enhance user engagement, I was excited to dive into Fable's features and see how it could benefit my business.

The Good
- Seamless Recording Experience: Fable's browser extension makes it incredibly easy to record demos, and the AI-powered editing tool helps to break down the recording into interactive pages. This feature alone has saved me hours of manual editing time.
- On-Screen HTML Customization: The ability to edit HTML directly on the screen is a massive advantage. It allows me to customize the demo to fit my brand's style and remove any sensitive information, making it a must-have feature for me.
- Responsive Design: Fable's responsive design ensures that my demos look great on any device, which is essential for catering to a diverse user base.

Areas for Improvement
- Limited Audio Options: While Fable's text-to-speech feature is decent, I'd like to see more advanced audio options, such as the ability to upload custom audio files or integrate with popular audio platforms.
- Occasional Glitches: I've experienced some minor glitches while using Fable, but the support team has been responsive and helpful in resolving these issues.

The Verdict
Fable is an excellent tool for creating interactive demos and step-by-step guides. Its ease of use, on-screen HTML customization, and responsive design make it a standout product in its class. While there are some areas for improvement, I'm confident that the Fable team will continue to refine and expand the product's features.

Will I continue using Fable? Absolutely. I've already seen significant improvements in user engagement and conversion rates since implementing Fable, and I'm excited to explore its full potential.

It was one of the most promising products I purchased on AppSumo. However, there have been no updates on their roadmap, and even the support team is not responding anymore. It seems they have abandoned the product. Hopefully, I can get my refund before the 60-day period ends.

during the campaign we made the purchasing decision understanding that if we bring our ai key we can continue to use our own llm models to generate demos without the limitations of the "ai credits" that is not the case. in our view this product is not worth the effort to implement/use just to have such limitations.

Good product and really helpful features.

Note:
The product's whole charm is because of the AI integration which automates voice over and shows seamless click actions and zooms removes multiple screens captured during the HTML recording.

When you dont use AI integrations the contextual zooming is not available and becomes VERY VERY cumbersome to use.

Not recommended unless you are ready spend 4-5 USD per video of 2 min

The product is great, but I had so many issues using it.

First, the AI credits were deducted from my account even though there was an error in generation and nothing was generated. The team said it's refunded, but it's not.

Second, although the demos are great, half of the time it doesn't work at all. The HTML doesn't render correctly. I asked for support, and the responses I get didn't help at all. They told me to re-record the demo, but when I did that the images on the website doesnt render correctly. The webp/png showed up with black backgrounds. The team showed little to no care.

I pinged both the support channel on the website and through email multiple times.

This product could have been great. I thought it was going to be great. But I faced issues and the team completely ignored me. Might ask for a refund soon if they still continue to ignore my requests for help.

Edit:
- The team responded to my first query, and ignored the follow up issues/queries until I wrote this review.
- They said I can't record on my local environment (even though the recording works properly sometimes and sometimes it doesn't, but they didn't clarify why that's the case.), and that's why I re-recorded it on the HTTPS / deployed version. That gave me the issue with the images where it had a black background on images that had transparent background. The team did not get back to me on this.
- They brushed off the credits issue where I paid $6 extra to buy Quilly credits and it got an error (nothing was generated. I had to manually do everything) but then I didn't get any credits back.
They said I did, but I didn't, and they ignored the issue.

Fable is tough to review as it's already a relatively good tool but it has a lot of room for improvement.

First let's get one of the main issues out of the way which should be easy to fix and is related to maximizing embedded guides. If viewing the embedded guide on a larger browser window on your computer, there is a maximize icon at the top right which is too tiny and I have to assume a lot of viewers won't realize they can view the guide in full screen.

On mobile the situation is worse in that there isn't even a button anywhere to go full screen for embedded guides, despite the fact that viewing in full screen is even more important on mobile devices. At least you can write code to make your own button to take the iframe full screen but it's a hassle to have to do that for every guide.

There are also issues with audio. It will record some audio when recording the demo but not all audio. If it does record audio there seems to be no way to remove it, and given there are a couple issues with the playback of recorded audio that can be a problem.

Voiceover support is not the greatest and it sounds like using voiceovers consumers the rather low number of minutes included for audio/visual guides. For video you can at least use YouTube to avoid wasting these minutes, but there isn't any similar external/self hosting option for audio.

Similarly Quilly AI credits are one time and the credits included aren't enough to do more than basically demo it briefly. It does do an impressive job of describing steps/actions if you use it though. I will not be using it due to the cost.

Fable is strictly for creating HTML guides and clearly they have no desire to support video exports. I can live with that, just pointing it out for anyone reading the review.

However, what is a little disappointing currently is the fact they talk like interactive guides are very superior to simpler guide platforms based on screenshots and similar. In theory that is true but the level of interactivity currently possible is a little lacking. Sure the ability to change the text on the page (usually works but occasionally won't work for some elements) and remove elements is nice, but it feels like there are some missing opportunities here to make HTML guides truly interactive such as making elements clickable to take to it to the step/module, play audio or video, etc. As is there isn't that much reason for me to use this over screenshot based guides, mainly just has the neat trick of showing mouse hover animations.

Well there is one other potentially large benefit which is the mobile responsive feature. If the recorded website is responsive, the Fable guide will be responsible. However, this may or may not work well depending on the specific website being recorded.

Although I'm writing more about the negative aspects of Fable, it's still a product I would recommend for the LTD price with the assumption they will keep developing and improving it. Out of my many AppSumo purchases over several years this is actually one of the products I've been most excited to start using.

What I'd really love to see implemented is multilingual support so we can translate the guide into multiple languages with the viewer being able to select the language. Working around this on my side and creating copies of guides in multiple languages but really nice to have language switching capabilities built in.

Not bad at all really quite fast and well thought out it genuinly has a fair amount of depth to it.
I enjoy using it and it has some good potentials.
AI credit funding seems affordable and reasonable too.

It's a shame the Multi Branching Module is no longer available due to growth compatibility as is was one of my primary requirements, but it is nice to see a sudden 'growth spurt' too.

So many things I love about this, that a lot of great walkthrough software have... One thing that's unique to Fable that I haven't seen anywhere else though, is the fact that Fable actually recreates the HTML of what you're recording. It's pretty amazing.

For example, it preserves the CSS animations in the actual walkthrough, when I made a demo for buyers of our website templates.

Many good things to say, but there is a Live from tech influencer Loud Egg on YouTube with the founder of Fable, that covers a lot of the unique things that Fable has to offer.

Definitely consider this. :) I use it in sales, during service, and for my affiliates and team. This even records nicely in Google Sheets or Docs.

This app is literally everything you could need in creating interactive demos for your products.

As someone who is bringing tech tools to people who have historically ignored all things tech beyond facebook, this tool will make my life so much easier.

I cannot believe the quality of the production of the interactive demo right from the beginning, and the quality of the written notes.

Switched from ScribeHow to this app. Mostly, because it was a lifetime deal but it even outcompetes ScribeHow in my opinion.

Also, the support is excellent.

I don't write many reviews, but I really love Fable and their team. The experience is smooth, and when a problem arises, the response is always appropriate and clear. Truly, if Fable comes back on AppSumo, don't hesitate for a second, and if not, don't hesitate to subscribe to their service :)

Love this demo creation utility. It helps incredibly to provide an interactive format for users to understand a topic. It's a great addition to video, but alternatively it can include video in the demos, so either way it's a standalone product that is helpful for user training. I had to contact support a few times and they are awesome.

In my opinion when customer support is poor it’s a red flag for me, but their customer support has been another highlight. I had a question and the support team responded promptly and were very helpful. I would highly recommend it.

This is a well polished product with really good UI. I had a feature request, and the team deployed it within 2-3 days. Excellent Team and support. Highly recommended!

There have been a lot of tools for demos, SOPs etc. But nothing like this. This tool creates demos that are so easy for people to follow. They're interactive, simple and can even help with lead gen. Genius. I white label a tool that I use to provide a service. With fable I was able to show exactly what my clients can expect by creating a 'tour' like demo of the before and after (results). Support is fantastic. Even created a video demo specifically for me and my use case today to show me how to improve my demo. Wishing nothing but the best for these guys. Such a great tool.

I have been testing Fable and overall it's very good. The user interface, in general, is good, perhaps a bit confusing in some parts and with room for improvement, but it can already be used comfortably.

However, in this review, I believe it is important to focus my attention on some important missing features.

1.- "Undo" function. This is a basic feature that doesn't exist. If you make a mistake, or change some text, you will never be able to click on "Undo" to go back and recover what you incorrectly modified.

2.- There are missing options to enhance the experience for people with visual impairments. The most important missing feature is probably very easy to include but it's not there. It's about simultaneous text+audio. Currently, if you input text, the text is displayed, but if you upload an audio file, the audio plays but the text disappears. There should be an option to choose: text only, audio only, or text+audio. Audiovisual guides are essential for people with visual impairments. I have inquired about this feature, and the development team acknowledges that it doesn't exist. They mention the possibility of including a video alongside the text, but again, that feature is incomplete as there is no option to activate video autoplay. If that option existed, undoubtedly it would be a great help in creating authentic audiovisual guides because we could include a video that contains "audio only." In my opinion, this is a priority, at least to include the option for video autoplay, so that Fable can be user-friendly for people with visual impairments.

3.- Within the editor, the content editor often malfunctions. For example, in a form where I see an email address, if I click on the element, it allows me to type in a fake email address, but then it doesn't show up there or replace the original one. It simply doesn't work sometimes, while other times it does. This is strange and should be fixed.

Additional suggestions:

1.- In the editor, there should be the possibility to add text boxes with additional explanations anywhere in the demonstration window. It could be used for clarifying notes or to increase the level of information.

2.- Not as important, but it would be nice to be able to choose whether a clicking sound plays when clicking on a demo button or not.

3.- Keyboard navigation. This feature doesn't exist but would be useful. For example, moving forward and backward in the demonstration using arrow keys is really useful and quick.

4.- The text editor within the text box could be more versatile and include common options like font types, colors, or lists.

5.- The text editor could also allow for the inclusion of animated gifs from a URL to make the demonstration more fun and engaging.

6.- The text editor could also enable the inclusion of images from a URL to avoid consuming storage capacity in our account.

7.- In the text editor, there could perhaps be an HTML code editor or at least the option to include an iframe. This would allow embedding other apps like surveys or contests, paperform forms, and others, or even videos with automatic playback.

Finally, I must mention other options/features that should be improved. In the "Annotation Style" section, you can modify default colors and button texts. However, there should be the possibility to create multiple "Annotation Styles" for different types of use. For example, it's convenient to have a different window and button style for one type of demonstration and a completely different style for another type of demonstration. This allows for saving different branding styles that should be selectable in the Branding section of the editor. Additional note about "Annotation Style." The color of the arrow or triangular icon pointing to where the window text is located should be changeable. By default, it's dark gray and in a demonstration with a black background, it's very difficult to see clearly, especially for people with visual impairments. I'm sure that adding this wouldn't be too difficult and would greatly help in obtaining a better visual experience.

Despite what has been mentioned, I see the potential of Fable. I have contacted support several times and surprisingly they respond quickly and seem willing to listen to improvement suggestions and promise that everything will work better in the future. I just hope that this is true and that really important features arrive very soon because Fable has great potential to be the most versatile and functional interactive demonstration app on the market.

We have purchased other apps to onboard, guide and support visitors. But, this really takes it to a new level. The interactions and paths for visitors are far more interactive and personalised than the tools we have used previously. Normally a straight path for all users. But Fable is enabling us to create onboarding for a wider range of users - but still keep it feeling like the experience is designed just for (each) of them. The great support really makes this more than 5 tacos (there should be a 5+ option). Highly recommended.

Makes creating demos so much easier! Still getting used to it and wish I could change the size of the boxes or make the arrows go to the next slide instead of the previous one but so much better than the videos we were making.
