Before Firma.dev, I was running an HR SaaS platform that needed offer letters, contracts, and onboarding paperwork signed electronically. Every e-signature option I found charged a monthly minimum or billed per seat, which made no sense for a workflow where usage swung wildly, some months we were hiring fast, other months almost nothing went out the door. I looked at building it in-house. But pulling engineers off the core product to maintain signing infrastructure, audit trails, and legal compliance across regions felt like the wrong tradeoff for a small team. We would have spent months on something that wasn't our product. So I built the API I actually wanted. Pay per envelope, no monthly commitment, legally valid the moment you send your first document, and you get notified the second someone signs instead of waiting to recieve a scanned PDF back by email. What started as an internal tool for my own HR product became Firma.dev. Today it gets used the way I originally needed it, embedded into other people's products, run by agencies managing contracts across dozens of clients, and used by teams that just need paperwork handled without hiring a developer for it.
