Exactly what I needed
I've used other screen recorders, which all kinda do what they do well enough. What sets FocuSee apart for me is that it's simple, but powerful in the right areas. I can edit videos quite well, but editing is a pain. I don't think too many people enjoy sitting down cutting and adding transition effects, etc.
FocuSee makes it easy to add some nice polished touches:
- Custom Backgrounds: I have branded custom wallpapers that I use throughout my marketing material. I can throw one of those back there and it instantly makes it recognizable. And I don't have to fiddle with a 3rd party editing tool to do that.
- Zoom Effects: this is the really cool part. It will add these zoom effects automatically when you click, but you can adjust the start and finish, as well as the amount of zoom and the length of the effect. All very cool. You can also add your own wherever you'd like to focus on.
- Mouse Click Effects: This is great for demos and walkthroughs. Viewers can see exactly where you click and it's a nice effect that makes it look premium.
Finally, as someone who is technically proficient with a tool like Adobe Premiere, this is a welcome departure to be able to get high quality videos without all the tinkering. Sometimes you just want a simple tool that does a fantastic job.
My biggest gripe so far is small, but I was annoyed at it. I booted up my computer and noticed that my webcam was activated. That triggered all sorts of alarms in my head about what malware I might have. Then I realized FocuSee was running.
Why does the app have an "Auto Start" feature? And why is this default toggled to "ON"?
Let's get it straight, this is a very useful app, but it absolutely doesn't need to start when anyone's computer starts. Even if you make videos all day long. And even so, this is an option to opt into, instead of opting out of. It annoyed me enough that I came to make this review.
Great overall, gave 4 tacos because this last thing was overreach and annoying.

Just as you mentioned, FocuSee is not intended for professional video editors but for individuals without advanced skills to quickly create an impressive video. As a result, we didn't implement many advanced editing features in FocuSee.
Regarding the"auto start webcam": It's designed to save the user's previous settings so that they don't have to reset it every time. If you enabled the webcam in your previous recording, it will be enabled by default next time.
However, you can disable the "auto start" feature in the settings of FocuSee. This way, the webcam won't auto-start when you start your computer without opening FocuSee.
Your concern is fully reasonable, and we will consider modifying the settings for the auto-start webcam.
