Q: Muted audio on video chatbot

If we set the video chatbot to open by default, it automatically mutes the video while it is speaking. This forces the user to have to unmute the chatbot in order to hear it. However, this is not ideal nor intuitive. Can you please allow us the option to have it play without it being muted?

The browser policy you mentioned has been around since 2018 so I am surprised that this has not been addressed properly. When an avatar begins speaking on mute, it creates confusion. I would encourage your team to add a simple button over a paused video of the avatar with a prompt to “Begin interacting with video chatbot.” Clicking the button will then begin playing the video avatar and unmute it.

Couldn't agree more. This is a simple way to ensure end-users can hear the whole message without trying to unmute in the middle of it.

Answer part 1:

Thank you both for your valuable insights. You're both right in your approaches. While this browser limitation started earlier, our developers managed to bypass it with JavaScript until recent updates made that impossible.

Many of our clients use the videobot for auto-triggered product demos, where sound isn’t always needed upfront.

Answer part 2:

Personally, I prefer keeping LouiseBot’s interface simple to avoid too many settings. However, based on your suggestions 👌, a potential solution could be adding an option for autoplay without sound, with a clear button for users to activate both the video and sound.

I’ll bring this idea to our team soon.
