Q: When using BYOK, are Text Credits supposed to be used up also?

A: Yes, that's intentional - Text Credits are still consumed when using BYOK.

Here's the reasoning: we don't cap the number of posts you can create, drafts you can generate, or how often you can run workflows - everything is unlimited within your plan. If BYOK bypassed credits entirely, a single account could push thousands of posts through Followr's infrastructure (storage, scheduling, queues, integrations, processing) at essentially zero cost to the user but very real cost on our side.

So credits aren't just about LLM token costs - they're also how we scale account usage fairly across tiers. BYOK lowers your model cost and gives you control over which provider you use, but the underlying Followr infra still has to support the volume, and that's what the credits account for.

Let me know if anything else is unclear.

Totally reasonable on infra costs.

But Text Credit consumption varies based on model selection, even with BYOK?

OpenAI GPT-4.1 Mini → 1 word credit
Claude 4.5 Sonnet → 10 word credits
Claude 4 Opus → 20 word credits

With BYOK, the increased cost is on the user’s side, not your infra. I’d argue that better models (with BYOK) → fewer generations → lower infra costs.
