What is the difference between a participant and a member ?

Member - someone who joins your community, either because they paid or added their emails manually. Here sign up is mandatory to be part of your membership.
Community is a specific feature that allows you to lock down specific rooms only for your members.

Can each participating member see each other on screen ? If so, is there a way to pre select which ones are visible and not ?
Yes, they see each other. You cannot select who is showing or not, but you can save some spots only to moderators, or hide circles below the scene.
