Long time headway subscriber— disappointed in new pricing tiers
As the title suggests, I’m a long time subscriber to headway and was very excited to see a lifetime model for their summaries. This tier was better than the 19.99/yr model I had previously.
However, just this week I found they have implemented a new tier system which completely blocked me from a summary I was IN THE MIDDLE OF READING prompting me to upgrade with another one time payment.
I lost my streak in the confusion of why it was asking me to do another “lifetime payment” when I had just set up the appsumo purchase and was mid book when this happened. I ended up finding a new book and that one worked, which made me realize the max thing was something different.
I now see many of their “best” books are behind this new paywall. It’s sad because I’ve been with them for a while and was recommending their services to a lot of people.
Now? I want to look and see if my appsumo deal is still within 60 days because I don’t want to play this game of access or not? 😂
Headway was a great way to learn high level concepts, but I am disappointed the appsumo community got their lifetime access right before a lot of their content gets pulled away for another fee.

I usually have high tolerance for AI voices but in this day and age any voice generation software can produce better narration. And chat gpt can write much better summaries and analyses. Headway’s insights can barely even be called “insights”… a quick internet search gives me better info and content

Good concept but summaries lack depth
The app is quite useful for quickly getting summaries of books and getting a general idea of their content. The concept is good, and the interface is user-friendly.
However, having read some of the full books myself, I’ve noticed that some summaries don’t fully capture the most important ideas or key principles. They often lack concrete examples and the depth that a complete book provides. So, while Headway is a convenient tool for quick insights, it definitely cannot replace reading the entire book for a full understanding.
Also, the quality of summaries can be quite uneven, which affects the overall experience.
In short, Headway is a handy app for getting a taste of many books, but it’s important to remember its limitations as a summary tool.
