Ok, first of all, I'm giving it 3.5 tacos, so I'm rounding it up to 4.

Kroto is already quite good, but actually unfinished, but that's why people are collecting for money here. It would therefore be unfair to compare new software with established software.

I had Kroto Tier 2 and also use Layerpath, so I can make comparisons. Why did I give it back? Primarily because of the mediocre AI voiceovers. In contrast to Layerpath, these sound halting and poorly emphasized, which is why it doesn't really make sense to use them when there are better ones. Since there is also no information available about when Premium Voices will be available and whether they are part of the LTD, this was one less taco.

The rest. OK, you can see the potential here. Kroto surpasses Layerpath in the generation of guides & videos. The guides look better right from the start, the videos have to be created with a somewhat cumbersome but learnable workaround, but benefit from the use of your own (recorded) language for AI voiceovers generated on it. In Layerpath, each scene must first be laboriously generated with AI Voice, only then can the text be changed manually. Kroto has the edge here!

However, the UI not only looks unfinished, but is sometimes bocky and hinders a smooth and fast work flow, hence half a taco deduction.

I consider Tier 1 to be completely useless; the developers should reconsider implementing the export function here. What else is there to do with it without export? If you want reach for your product, you should offer small hurdles and minimal offers that bring something.

The generation sometimes takes a while, but for a new product it's ok and has always worked. But the final reason why I initiated a return is that I'm not sure if Kroto will still exist in a year's time. But I'm happy to be convinced otherwise.

Brand Customization: You can also easily customize the entire knowledge base to match your brand, ensuring a consistent and professional look and feel across all customer-facing content.

Incredible Value: The lifetime deal is an absolute steal, especially considering the development of a desktop version and ongoing updates. Even if nothing changes, I’d still be more than happy with my purchase. As the owner of a SaaS product, I appreciate the effort these guys are putting into what they're building, including bugs and all, which many times can be fixed with a page refresh and patience.

Overall, Kroto continues to be an essential tool in streamlining our customer support and self-help content creation. It’s made a significant impact on the quality of our self-service resources and the time spent managing them. I couldn’t be happier with my decision to invest in this app!

So I debated whether to buy this for a couple of weeks before finally taking the plunge. I wanted the Sumoling video review of the tool and I was skeptical about whether Kroto would really save time, or if I’d have to spend ages editing the gifs at each stage and optimising the text.

In then end, I bought it to give it a try because I had a client ask for instructions on how to do something in WordPress and I didn’t have the time to do a detailed step-by-step SOP. And I figured at least I could do a screen recording of the steps and if the article wasn’t very good, I didn’t have to use it for this and I could refund if it wasn’t saving time.

I was very pleasantly surprised.

My first test went smoothly and the gifs and text require very little editing — despite the fact that I shared a lot of advice in between the actual steps. I couldn’t preview the results very well, but when I published it, it all worked smoothly.

Pros — very easy to use with almost no learning curve. The AI does an impressive job of picking out all the steps and summarising the instructions succinctly. It also does an excellent job of correctly captioning the video even with my Aussie accent. I love that it was easy to select the option to either share my window or a specific tab, so I didn’t have to worry about other tabs being visible.

Cons — I use my iPad for 99.9% of all my workflows. I have access to a windows laptop but it’s slow and has a terrible battery, so I hate using it. And since Kroto only works in chrome for now, I have no choice but to use the laptop. As mentioned, I also had trouble previewing the outputs. The video preview wouldn’t play and the gif previews were completely white with just the click highlights.

I understand the team will allow video uploads in the future. If that works as well as the chrome extension did, that’ll be a great solution. I suspect we’ll have to manually select clicks though, and that would take away much of the appeal. But I look forward to trying it out. I can also see it being useful when turning video calls into guides. My ideal would be to have an iPad or iPhone record solution though as that would be really good for me being an iPad user but it would also be ideal for showing people how to do things specifically on a mobile phone.

If you ever have to show people how to do things on a computer, this is a no brainer. You have nothing to loose by giving it a try and I would highly recommend you give it a whirl to see if the video quality etc. meet your needs. It’s not going to be for everybody, but for those who suit it, it’ll make things sooooo much faaaasster!!!

Thanks guys, this is exactly what I needed. Now I'm able to record training material and share it with a few mouse clicks not having to redo it in person time and time again. Keep up the great work. One thing that could need some improvement is the preview buffering speed.

What they don't tell you up front is that you can only record action taking place in a Google Chrome web browser window. They say they are working on desktop apps that will allow recording of windows from other apps, but that doesn't help me today (I need tutorials for certain tasks in Excel, Word, etc.).

Also, to attempting to log in, they send you an email that contains a button you press to do the login. Apparently my web host's spam filter catches these, so I never get them. So I cannot login in the normal fashion (they sent me a hack work-around), and I can't add any sub-users at my Internet domain (whose email accounts all go through the same spam filtering).

I'm hopeful about the future, but at present Kroto does not meet my needs.
