Great question and completely valid concerns especially given how some very successful LTD video conferencing solutions that have launched on AppSumo in the past have shut down quite dramatically.
While we could give a general answer around the marketing channel and sales tactics we're going to be focused on post campaign, we believe a deeper look into how we provide KYZON Space as a service will provide a better reflection of our long-term sustainability. Since marketing channels or sales tactics can go out of style or be influenced by competitive or economic factors outside of our control.
Let's talk about what actually contributes to our operating costs and how we approach them. The five main areas that contribute to our operating costs are; server infrastructure, storage, bandwidth, but also surprisingly, AI and similar services along with bolt-on service subscriptions.
Server infrastructure despite being a fixed cost, we split into two types of servers, ones that handle live data (the video, audio and collaboration), and ones that handle information request data (website page or file opening). We use different secure providers and in different parts of the world for the different types of servers and that helps significantly reduce our server infrastructure costs. Combined with dynamically launching new servers when needed and closing servers that are idle, we have significantly less server costs compared to other providers.
Storage contributes only a small part of our operating costs at this stage. We store all of our user data in secure Amazon Web Services servers located in Sydney Australia. When storage costs increase in the future, we will be more efficient with our storage centre distribution, that will help manage costs. Until then, there's no real advantage.
Bandwidth is without a surprise, a major operational expense for any video calling provider. While we're not immune to bandwidth costs, we do 3 things differently. We optimise for the overall experience as opposed to setting resolution records. That means we only display the resolutions that you would notice depending on your screen size and that significantly reduces our bandwidth compared to streaming video at a steady 1080p for all devices/participants. We manually adjust where our secure servers are running from to take advantage of differences in regional bandwidth costs. Finally, we manage our own video, audio and collaborative technologies without relying on service contracts with third party services like Agora or Dyte.
AI and other services that just wouldn't be sustainable. We want to be the best platform, providing every feature under the sun but we know, and you likely also know, that wouldn't be sustainable for LTDs. So our approach to features, is to only include useful features that we know we can sustain. A great example of this is AI. Costs for AI models are still too expensive for us to provide within limits that would actually be useful to our customers. Imagine you're in the middle of an important meeting and suddenly your AI assistant tells you that you're out of credits (because we had to apply a credit limit) and promptly leaves. We imagine that would be quite frustrating and not very useful. So for AI specifically, we are looking at ways to implement them usefully and sustainably, but until then, we just simply wouldn't provide the service in a bid for long term sustainability.
Finally an unexpected operational cost that other platforms often overlook for readiness to market is bolting on services. Nowadays you can skip developing a lot of features and opt to bolt on that feature as a service through third party APIs. An example would be using a service like Agora or Dyte for our video and audio technologies. While we could've been market ready months earlier, it would very quickly be unsustainable on any type of LTD. We can't exactly provide a video collaboration platform where participants can't see, nor hear each other. What we do differently is that we simply develop most of our features, opting to rely on bolt-on services only for features that do not have a compounding cost with each new customer. An example would be our Notes feature for jotting things down during your Space meetings, where the costs for providing that feature wouldn't compound with each new customer.
While no business can promise they'll survive to the end of time, I believe breaking down our approach to providing a sustainable lifetime service, will provide customers like you with some confidence in our long-term viability as a business. On a final note, significant part of our revenue from life time deals will go into marketing and business development efforts to ensure we are growing as a business.
Hope that provides some transparency into how we operate differently from other video conferencing providers and the basis on which we are comfortable offering LTD plans.
Let me know if there's anything else I can help clarify and appreciate the interest :)
While there is no option of creating a custom meeting link URL, our meeting links are already quite static/permanent.
In the sense that all created/scheduled meeting spaces and the files uploaded to it, do not lock or disappear after a certain time. The 24 hour limit applies to the continuous time in call. As an example, if you and your clients remained in the meeting for 24 straight hours, then the current session would end. This is to prevent users from accidentally remaining in the call, but this doesn't prevent you from simply rejoining the same call at anytime to continue from where you left off and the previous documents would still be available.
Hope that addresses your use case?
Let me know if there's anything else I can help clarify and appreciate the interest :)
Q: Custom domains, AI summarize, transcription and API
Hello,
I'm wondering about these 4 points : 1 - Is it possible to use our own domain for multiple brands ? 2 - Is there an AI Summarize ? 3 - Is there a live recording / transcription 4 - Is there an API ? I saw in a previous answer that you were open to study the use cases, in my opinion would be great to have an API to sync calendars, trigger when a booking is done from outside (or from your calendar), trigger when a meeting starts or end, to push summarize or other things to CRM (based on email participant for example). ..
Thanks for the great questions. Unfortunately our answers will probably be somewhat disappointing.
1. Users are not able to customise the domain of the meeting for managing multiple brands. At this stage, we don't have plans of providing a white label or custom branding and CNAME options for our LTDs unfortunately.
Because as a business and a brand, we are late entrants to an already competitive market, we need all of the brand visibility and word of mouth from happy users of our platforms, to help bring awareness to our platforms and to build trust with our brand. If we provided white labelling or custom branding options at this stage, we would likely never get to the scale and awareness to establish ourselves with everyday users, as a reliable platform and company :)
While there are currently no plans for custom branding for our platforms, we encourage users to express their personal/agency brands by uploading their own custom virtual backgrounds that they can use during their meetings.
2. We currently do not offer native AI summaries as a direct result of not offering native transcriptions at this stage.
3. We support live recording of your meetings which by default will be saved to our cloud drive - KYZON Flow. That being said, we understand some users have worked on other platforms for years or even decades so we recently released an update that allows users to select Google Drive or Dropbox as the default saving location for their meeting recordings, with OneDrive to be available shortly.
In terms of transcriptions, we don't have a native solution for transcriptions yet. We've been trying to figure out a simple yet sustainable way of offering transcriptions on our LTDs but at the moment, we haven't come up with a good solution without compromising the usability of the feature. We believe there's no real point of us advertising transcriptions but only providing everyone with 1hr of transcription time per month.
4. We currently do not have an API but since our responses to other questions, we have been exploring opening up an API for certain use cases. That being said, to provide realistic expectations and timelines, we're looking at a medium term timeframe (before the end of the year).
We understand this is likely not what most AppSumo users would like to hear and completely understand if our product is no longer a great fit for you :) But to ensure we're providing a sustainable long-term service for all our users, we feel it's best to be upfront and transparent on these requests.
Let me know if there's anything else I can help clarify and appreciate the interest :)
At the stage you can only share uploaded videos or YouTube links. The main difference is that only YouTube videos shared in KYZON Space meetings are synced for all participants. At the moment we don't support sharing of Gumlet links.
Let me know if there's anything else I can help clarify and appreciate the interest :)
There is no limit on the number of participants you can have per breakout room. You are simply limited by the total number of participants you can have per meeting. So for Tier 3, because you can have 65 total participants per meeting, technically you can have up to 65 participants in one breakout room/space. Or you can have 60 participants in one space and 5 participants in another.
Basically in practice, you can organise your breakout rooms/spaces with any number of participants equal to the total number of participants per meeting.
Let me know if there's anything else I can help clarify and appreciate the interest :)
thanks for the information. this may not work for me since I will need hundreds of breakout rooms with 2-10 people do you have a solution for that amount
thanks for the update. I am looking for something more robust. I am looking to have hundreds of breakout rooms with 1-10 participants do you have that capability
We can definitely look to support that type of use case with our monthly subscriptions but not in the form of an LTD unfortunately. If you're interested in exploring how we can support your use case while being competitive on pricing, send me an email at james@kyzonsolutions.com :)
We try to keep our pricing very competitive for smaller businesses with our Professional plans. You can view our pricing here https://kyzonsolutions.com/pricing or we can hop onto a call and discuss some type of custom plan depending on your use case :)
