I bought Afforai when it was first time on Appsumo. At that time GPT 3.5 was the hottest LLM you could get your hands on and I was really impressed with what the team had built.

However GPT 3.5 is not clever enough for complex academic queries so I used Afforai sparingly. I followed the developments and liked the approach of Alec and the team.
Of course I was patiently waiting for the Team to anounce new LLM upgrades to use it again more.

When Alec anounced that they would upgrade their models, but only for Tier 3 with the better models first, I was very disappointed and also wrote here in the comment sections. Alec promised that Tier 2 will also get the Model upgrades in summer. I was a bit a skeptical but waited.
The Anthropic Haiku upgrade however was already a welcome improvement over GPT 3.5 so I started to use Afforai a little bit more again.

With the new Afforai and the new plans that include Tier 2 now with the better models Alec has kept has words towards the Appsumo community. I feel the changes are justified (dropping the renewing API keys for keeping costs down) while giving us better models and all the other upgrades.

To be clear, I was so disappointed since Alec has such a positive communication with the community so I felt it more strongly (my insecurity about future upgrades for Tier 2) as if he would have not engaged so actively (unfair, no?).

Now that we can see that Alec and their team have kept their word and show an amazing track of improving a great product even further, they deserve the support from anybody interested in an amazing academic / research oriented SOTA LLM application.

Great job Alex and Team! I can recommend Afforai wholeheartedly to take this short opportunity to join the fun :)
