Or is it planned to be only for FAQ 'questions' with short answers instead of detailed info?
For example I can't see the images I'm embedding into FAQ answers, just the link shortcode -- this would be strenuous to edit 'answers' with many images and markups if I can't see the images WYSIWYG

You can use Malcolm! internally with your staff of externally with customers - it's up to you!
Our editor uses Markdown - if you've not used Markdown before it can take a few minutes to get used to it but it's very fast to work with once you've got the hang of it. If you use the "side by side" view in the editor that will give you a preview of what you content will look like.
