Q: first tests show very slow rendering in comfyUI / flux
Am I doing something wrong, or is rendering really so slow on medium hardware? I installed ComfyUI and ran the Sample 2 workflow for Flux schnell. It took over 15 minutes to finish. The VAE decoding, which usually takes 2-3 seconds, took a whole minute instead. I also tried NF4, which unfortunately didn't work with the workflow or simply isn't compatible at this point (I will retry with a fresh machine).
Could you please provide typical render times for a standard image on Flux Schnell or Dev for different hardware settings? If it truly takes more than 15 minutes, it becomes impractical.

Sep 3, 2024A: Thank you for bringing this to our attention. Here's a more detailed breakdown of what you can expect regarding rendering times based on different hardware plans:
Typical Render Times for Flux Schnell on ComfyUI
Medium (T4 16GB VRAM | 16GB RAM):
On Medium hardware, more complex workflows like Flux Schnell can take longer to render. For instance, rendering a standard image might take around 10-15 minutes. The VAE decoding, which usually takes 2-3 seconds, might take up to a minute or more on this tier due to the limited VRAM and processing power.
Large (A10G 24GB VRAM | 16GB RAM):
With Large hardware, you should see a noticeable improvement in rendering times. Typically, the same workflow that took 10-15 minutes on Medium could be reduced to around 5-8 minutes. VAE decoding should also speed up, likely staying under 30 seconds.
Large-Pro (A10G 24GB VRAM | 32GB RAM):
On Large-Pro hardware, rendering times are even faster. You can expect the Flux Schnell workflow to complete in about 3-5 minutes. VAE decoding should be quick, taking roughly 10-20 seconds.
Ultra (L40S 48GB VRAM | 32GB RAM):
Ultra hardware provides the best performance. Rendering times for Flux Schnell on this tier could be as quick as 2-3 minutes, with VAE decoding taking just a few seconds, similar to what you might expect on a high-end local machine.
Additional Tips
Check Your Workflow: Ensure that the workflow and models are fully compatible with the hardware. Sometimes, performance issues arise from mismatches or incompatibilities.
Restart and Retry: If you encounter unusually long render times, a quick reboot of the environment might resolve the issue.
Consider Upgrading: If you find the rendering times on Medium hardware to be too slow for your needs, upgrading to Large, Large-Pro, or Ultra might provide the performance boost you’re looking for.
