Considering the initial cost, this seems like a poor business model. Prior to committing to this product, I'd like to know how frequently major (paid) updates occur, and what is the typical or average cost of each update?

Unlike what MLO replied above, updating is NOT optional. Sure, you have the option if you're going to update or not, but at some point you will have a license to a product that is no longer supported on any operating system anymore. Also, how on earth is a 20% discount a HEFTY discount for software? I love the software, but I'm never gonna buy it at these prices and with this businessmodel.
Do I need to buy something else to make this work? Thank you!

There is no native application for Mac at this moment. As a workaround, it is possible to run MLO on Mac through Crossover. Here is an instruction: https://www.mylifeorganized.net/support/setup-on-crossover
It is also possible to install the iPad version on Mac with M1 or M2...
Can I remove a device to free up its slot, then add another device in its place?

A: Yes, you can do that. There is an automatic system that monitors the number of currently activated devices and you will be notified if the limit is exceeded.
