It really looks great, but not having app-notifications in the early stage of an app builder i find to be a big disadvantage. Do you have an ETA or alternative way to implement notifications yourself at the moment?

You can already include notifications using a custom function that is very simple to add. We will soon release a full tutorial on building a water reminder app, which includes notifications as reminders.
We do it now with code because your notifications can come from your own backend, from the app itself, etc, so there are many options.
But we will have it built in as a plugin. We are currently working on a Marketplace, and it will be one of the first plugins.
Unfortunately, I can't give an estimated ETA because it can vary, but the moment you need to build push notifications, you can reach out to us, and we can manually help you do it with custom code.
