I purchased Pickaxe as an AppSumo Lifetime Deal customer, and one of the important features available and repeatedly confirmed during the LTD period was BYOK (Bring Your Own API Key).

Pickaxe publicly confirmed on AppSumo that:

• July 1, 2024: BYOK provided unlimited uses.
• July 7, 2024: there was no Pickaxe-side usage limit when using your own OpenAI API key.
• July 15, 2024: future BYOK improvements would also benefit AppSumo customers.
• October 17, 2024: using your own API key was again confirmed as providing unlimited usage.

Then, after the Lifetime Deal sales had ended, BYOK was removed. Pickaxe acknowledged this change in December 2025.

For me, this is not a minor feature change. BYOK allowed LTD customers to control their own API provider, billing, limits and usage, and it was an important part of the economics of using Pickaxe at scale.

Replacing BYOK with Pickaxe-managed credits is not equivalent to having direct control of our own API account.

I still think Pickaxe has useful features, but removing a capability that existed and was explicitly promoted to LTD buyers significantly reduces my confidence in the long-term value of the deal.

I hope Pickaxe does the fair thing and restores/grandfathers BYOK for the original AppSumo LTD customers who purchased while this feature was included.

Reach out to pickaxe before reacting here, I did too quickly.

I am awaiting if I will get my account back or not. Founder wrote that it was ridiculous of me that I could not wait a little before being so negative. Well he was correct, it was ridiculous of me jumping the gun that way.

It could be that it was not possible to migrate the LTD accounts automatically.

I will also update my tacos to 3 tacos. I think I probably evaluate pickaxe to 2 tacos. But it would not really be fair, since I have not tested the new version. So a neutral 3 might be most correct in this situation.

But appsumo should really allow replying to vendor comments here, for many reasons.
Pickaxe are clearly here and communicating which should is appreciated.

I did not get 10 emails asking to migrate over to anything!

I am more unhappy with AppSumo. This is the second time, one of the deals purchased "..an email or 10 in case was apparently sent over " but it never came!

If a founder is pulling the plug in any way or as in the case of pickaxe - supposedly migrate to a new platform or lose your account kind of scenario - that email should be sent to an inbox inside AppSumo login! No more - ah...but we sent you an email hogwash!

As far as Pickaxe goes - a SAAS company that can't migrate over LTD account? I think that is a sufficient review about their capability or the lack thereof!

I’ve been using your service and find it very useful. I wanted to kindly suggest adding PayPal as a payment option. PayPal is widely used and trusted, and having it integrated would make monetization much easier and more accessible for many users, myself included.

someone should tell PickAxe that in 2026 you don’t ban or delete accounts if they haven’t migrated, especially if those accounts were bought via AppSumo as lifetime deals! we are aware of numerous users whose accounts got removed—or rather banned. this is a clear violation of the sale terms advertised. the crazier part is AppSumo thinks it’s not a problem? over the last few years AppSumo has been dropping the ball.
