Useful concept, but the real cost is hidden behind expensive credits

Poppy has an interesting visual workflow and the ability to organise research, videos, PDFs, and content ideas on a board is useful. The core concept has potential.

However, the pricing structure seriously weakens the value of the AppSumo lifetime deal.

After purchasing, I discovered that API access is not included in the AppSumo tiers. It requires an additional Power User subscription. This matters because connecting Poppy with other AI tools, agents, and automation workflows was one of my main intended use cases.

The credit pricing is also excessive:

3,000 credits cost $150
6,000 credits cost $210
10,000 credits cost $350

These are one-time purchases, not recurring credits. Yet the upgrade page calls this an ā€œAppSumo Lifetime Credits Dealā€ and refers to ā€œlifetime credit boosts.ā€ That wording is confusing because the credits are only added once.

The practical cost can therefore include the original lifetime deal, expensive one-time credit packages, and another recurring subscription for API access. That is very different from the value I expected from a lifetime purchase.

The upselling also feels too aggressive. I was encouraged to upgrade with messaging such as ā€œYou’re on Fireā€ and ā€œGo Viral with Poppy AIā€ while my account still showed 0 of 1,000 credits used. That creates pressure before the product has even been properly evaluated.

Poppy may be useful for some creators, but buyers should understand the full cost structure before purchasing. For my intended workflow, the missing API access, expensive credits, unclear ā€œlifetimeā€ wording, and aggressive upselling make the deal poor value.

I'm going to try my best to address everything you've mentioned above one by one and also share some of my thoughts on the reality of AI costs.

1) You mentioned that the credit pricing is excessive.

These prices were put together after SO MUCH care and thought to make sure it actually is sustainable for us to continue providing the service for everyone who signs up šŸ’Æ.

If you take a look at Claude or ChatGPT, their best experience comes at a cost of $100/mo.

The same thing goes for Poppy.

For anybody who wants to use Poppy at a higher capacity we do charge more because it COSTS US a lot more.

Otherwise, we would go bankrupt as a company given that we are BOOTSTRAPPED and DO NOT have any funding compared to the Claude or ChatGPT with billions.

So, unfortunately we cannot reduce the price.

Every dollar that we make continues to go back into the product.

To develop new features and experiences we introduce every month, to continue providing our amazing 24x7 HUMAN customer support, and make sure every user can use Poppy AI for a very long time to come ā¤ļø.

This is all done to make sure that YOU continue to get value from Poppy AI, create content that gets you views, write emails that convert and get you leads that make YOU more money šŸ’Ŗ.

If you look at the cost of Poppy AI and the amount of time you are saving and the results it generates for you in the longer term, the cost wouldn't matter.

And we have generated AMAZING results.

If you look at our track record, we've provided an amazing service to OVER 15,000+ users for over 2 years.

Have amazing reviews on TrustPilot & G2 AND creators have made YouTube videos talking about how great a product we have šŸ”„.

We wanted to make sure we price our deals sustainably and NOT something unrealistic so we do NOT DIE in the next 6 months.

This is also one of the reasons why it took us MORE THAN 1 YEAR to bring Poppy AI to AppSumo. We had to go back and forth so many times to make sure we provide the best and most SUSTAINABLE deal for Sumo customers 🌮.

2) Since you've left the review, we've introduced new tiers on AppSumo that have access to APIs (please check tiers 5 &6).

If you are interested in checking them out, you can upgrade to the new tiers and give it a try.

Now, the reason why it was introduced ONLY on tiers 5 & 6 is because we give a white-glove support to all our API users and would love to keep it that way to ensure they have a great experience and also improve the API experience over time ā¤ļø.

3) For every tier you purchase on AppSumo it DOES come with a lifetime credit deal.

For example on tier 1 you get 500 credits/mo vs. on tier 4 you get 3,000 credits/mo.

We also added a bonus credit for the first month (which is listed in the pricing table) as a way to accommodate users who might struggle and end up wasting credits when they first get started with using Poppy.

We also give ANOTHER 5,000 credit bonus for everyone who does a 1-1 onboarding with the team (if you didn't book one, you can reach out to our amazing 24x7 support team and they'll help you out 🫶)

AND it has been FIXED āœ….

The upgrade pop-up is not meant to show up unless you've run out of credits.

But in your case, it showed when you had used 0 credits.

It should not have happened.

I'm sorry it made you feel like we were trying to push for an upsell when you had not tried out the product yet.
